The battery is probably dead. You can locate a repair service who will replace it for you for under $50, or you could do it yourself, it's not very difficult. You can easily find detailed instructions on the web, and the replacement battery costs about $5 on ebay.I found good instructions here, that will give you an idea of whether you want to undertake the repair yourself. http://www.imore.com/weekly-mod-replace-battery-iphone-3g3gs
You need to let it sit like that for 20-30 minutes before trying anything. The battery needs a minimum charge before it will start. If the battery gets too low, it will show the "minimal red line."
After 20-30 minutes, it should be able to start up again.
possible battery problem, i suggest you visit the nearest service center for your phone to be check by a professional.. if it still under warranty much better so you dont have to pay any charge for the repair.
If you are using the same cable connected to the mains and the PC then it would indicate that you have a faulty USB cable, especially since it charges in the car.
welll hold the power and home button down at the same time and as soon as it turns off plug it in u should see a battery symbol that shows its chargeing
It's not booting up. hook it to the computer and see if iTunes sees it when you bring it up holding home and power for 6 secs. then releasing power and hold home longer. Restore it when itunes sees it and it should work again.
Get a can of air and blow it into the 30-pin connector and headphone jack to clear the phone of dust and build-up. This should clear up the problem. I learned this from an Apple Store Genius Bar associate.
