Dark area on Sony LCD screen model KDL-46XBR4

My Sony LCD model KDL-46XBR4 started showing a vertical dark spot on the right hand side of the screen when the tv was just turned on - that lasted a month or so - now the darkness covers the whole right side of the screen - eventually it goes away, but it always happens every time the tv first turns on. Can this be fixed? How? The TV is about 3 year old.

This model of SONY TV uses a Samsung display panel, the problem you have is the panel went bad.

SONY was offering an extended warranty to change the panel free, please call SONY to check it out that if they still offer the free replacement.

It sounds like something large, such as a basketball or soccer ball, impacted the screen and destroyed the display.

Hi Darlene, unfortunately this sounds like a panel defect. This has happened before with the very same model. To be sure I would try and do a factory reset (search your model, there may be a key sequence reset) on the unit or try leaving it unplugged for a while to see if that helps. But if you are within warranty I would get Sony on the horn immediately!

That is correct. Sony has extended their warranty on panels for this model until Oct. 31st 2012. Just give Sony a call or simply take your set to an authorized service center and you will get your set fixed for free.

Is it possibly running in demo mode? Go into the menu and check.
