This kind of repair requires a specialist that really knows his clocks, if it's a mechanical clock. If it's not mechanical, then you either live with it, or replace the mechanism.

SOURCE: Halo Grandfather Clock won't chime hour

In my eyes there are two kinds, ones that are a real grandfather clock that runs on gravity using a series of weights and gears with different counterweights for chimes and running the clock itself, and there are the show pieces that look like a grandfather clock but run on newer tech and electronics. If a real one then would try first pulling the weights to the top. They are usually shaped into a pinecone or something. If weight is at bottom them have to pull corresponding chain with weight till the weight is at the top of case. As "time" goes by the weights lower. You should have different counterweights for the clock, chimes, dancing figures and whatever else it may have. All the weights move at different "speeds" so you have to keep an eye on them to make sure it keeps correct time. I would recommend consulting the manufacturer if possible. There are so many kinds out there is really hard to tell by such a short video.

SOURCE: I have a Seth Thomas

The next time it chimes multiple times turn the hour hand clockwise until it is pointing at the number of times it gonged. Next take off the dial nut off (make sure to put it in a plastic bag because they can be hard to replace) and turn the minute hand until it chimes signaling 15 minutes after. Now put the minute hand back on pointing to 3 o'clock and replace your dial nut and you are all set.

SOURCE: Howard Miller grandfather clock keeps good time but chimes are off and five hours late

If you need to ask how to fix it, it probably means you shouldn't be tinkering with it.

You have something that represents a fair chunk of money and it would be wise to consult an experienced horologist about your problem or perhaps consult the manufacturer.

The cure might be as simple as removing the hands and putting them back to coincide with the chimes but it is presumably a fault that developed over time. I doubt the hands moved their relative positions by themselves but rather something inside happened.

Owning a mechanical pendulum clock is a hobby that requires some basic knowledge about how it works and how to care for it. The hands should never be turned backwards, for instance. Changing the time for daylight saving means either stopping the pendulum for an hour or advancing it by an hour and pausing at each quarter to allow the chimes to sound fully. Any mistakes will mean winding on many hours or stopping the clock and waiting.

My Howard Miller Grandfather floor clock 610-808 chimes constantly

Hello Shirley Haas,

Leave the weight fully extended (stop the clock)
and start checking your local area for clock-smith
that make house calls (run on hour strikes are much more common... but whatever you say... "CHIMES" the cause
is likely the same: Little or no maintenance).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Howard-Miller-Grandfather-Clock-Movement-with-Dial-Model-610-309-serviced-/282379781809?hash=item41bf2586b1:g:UO4AAOSwMmBVjdo-

These clocks need to be lubed and serviced and it is work
best left to the serious professionals.

You can probably get away with another 35 years...

Remember we have time on our side...

As for me...
I bought a junk clock to EXAMINE & fix (did)
I purchased synthetic clock oil (LIBERTY noted below)
and lubed ALL the obvious spots...
wiping excess away with Q-Tips.

Then I assaulted my own RIDGEWAY...
Got it running & regulated (was NOT my problem)...
My pendulum only needed to be centered correctly
(oh well).

I could NOT pull up YOUR 610-808 movement... but on the movements I have done you can see the hour strikes & the lever that triggers that motion (HOURS are each a spike on
the gear wheel... from one (^), 2 (^^) to 12 (^^^^^^^^^^^^)
progressively (pretty obvious if you are looking).

Go there... look... lube..!! Be gentle... VERY GENTLE...
or better ... call in a QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSON.

It wont chime on the hour

Basic assumption... The chimes know what time it is...!!

FORCE NOTHING...!!

From page 10 of owners manual below (MINUTES):

EXAMPLE: Clock chimes at 1:10 but should chime at 1:15.

Step 1: When clock chimes at 1:10 stop the pendulum and record the time of 1:10.

Step 2: Carefully remove the small nut....

(Hour procedure is on the SAME PAGE (10).

How do I synchronize a Grandfather Clock to chime correctly on the right hour?

Count the number of times the clock strikes, while leaving the minute hand pointing at the twelve, move the hour hand ( short hand) to the number it struck. ( this is the only time you should ever move the hour hand yourself). Tighten the hour hand by pressing the hour hand in towards the dial just a little. This can be done by placing a thumb nail on each side of the base of the hour hand at the center shaft. You do not want the hand to touch the dial. Now run your clock up to a quarter after, and let it chime. Now the half hour, the third quarter, and finally the hour. It should strike the correct hour if done correctly. Short version, move minute hand(long hand) to twelve so that it's pointing straight up. 2 move hour hand(short hand) back one hour. 3 tighten hour hand by pushing in toward dial. 4 check the function by advancing the clock one quarter hour at a time letting it chime in between quarters, then counting the strike on the hour. Hope this helps, and not confuses. Good Luck
