Likely the deck idler pulley is loose or bearings are shot. The pulley should not wobble and the flat side of the belt should ride square against the pulley face (the pulley should be reasonably perpendicular to the deck). If not, the idler arm pivot is loose or the pivot bolt and arm are shot. Check proper tension is applied by idler pulley torsion spring (the belt is not loose).

1 Lower the mower deck to its lowest position.
2 Route the serpentine blade drive belt (part number 6109) onto the V-pulleys located on the mower deck. One double pulley is located at the front of the deck near the center. The other two pulleys are located near each side of the deck. Route the belt around the outside -- the side toward the outer edge of the mower deck -- of each pulley. For the double pulley near the front of the deck, route the belt around the lower pulley (part number 6058) only. If pulleys are fitted with belt guards, work the belt in between the pulley and shield.
3 Push the idler pulley toward the center of the deck with your hand. The idler pulley (part number 6059) is the fourth pulley on the deck and is located near the rear of the deck. It is the only movable pulley on the deck. Wrap the belt around the side of the pulley nearest the edge of the deck. Release the idler pulley to place tension on the belt. No adjustment is necessary because the serpentine idler spring (part number 6065), located on the idler pulley, adjusts the belt to the correct tension.

Check your PTO switch operation which is at the engagement handle.

As for hooking the cable spring to deck idler pulley and brake assembly it goes in the hole closest to the idler pulley on the G deck which different then the F deck which uses the same idler arm assembly as the part is design to fit both decks.

Also make sure your using an OEM spec as a will fit will not work properly. You also must the spindle pulleys belt retainer covers in place so the belt will stay on.

To replace EZT belt
Park the mower on a level surface. Engage the park brake.

EZT belt removal
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the fan blades on the EZT as this can affect cooling or damage the EZT.

1. Remove the deck belt
2. Create slack in the belt by pushing the spring loaded idler arm away from the belt.
3. Rotate arm to release belt tension.
4. The belt should now be able to be removed from the engine pulley and EZT pulleys.

Belt installation

1. Wrap the EZT belt around the EZT pulleys.
2. Wrap the belt around the engine pulley.
3. Route the belt around the inside of the idler pulley while keeping tension off the belt and then slowly the idler assembly afterwards.
4. Check that the belt is on all the pulleys correctly and test drive your unit.
5. Afterward then re-install your mower deck once your are satisfied with the drive installation..

Changing the Blade Drive Belts:
a.Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
b.Unscrew the wing nuts from the deck covers and remove both covers.
c.Using a 3/8" socket breaker bar or socket ratchet insert the drive end into the 3/8" square opening in the lower idler arm assembly and push the idler arm counterclockwise. While holding the idler arm back, loosen the blade drive belt from the pulley and slide the belt away from the pulley.
d.Remove tension of the PTO belt by moving the belt tensioning rod. Loosen the belt retaining bolt.
e.Pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt and remove the PTO belt then remove the blade drive belt.
f.Reverse the process to install the belt.

Release belt tension, unbolt the pulley, replace it with a new idler pulley. If you need more help, please follow up here.

You'll be working underneath the mower, so it is helpful to raise the mower chassis up -- at least in back. Use your automobile jack, then put jackstands underneath the chassis to do this. Take off the deck drive belt first by releasing the idler spring(s). Unbolt and remove the "anchor" that keeps the PTO clutch from rotating. Disconnect the electrical wires leading to the PTO. Release the tension on the idler for the hydrostatic drive belt. Now you can thread the new hydrostatic belt over the engine pulley and around both wheel motor pulleys. The idler pulley presses it inward to provide tension. Refasten the idler spring - a pair of channellock pliers works well to hold and pull the spring. Even though the routing is correct, have you checked that every spindle and idler pulley turns freely? These bearings can freeze up or bind because debris builds up in them. Also, if the bushings on the idler pulleys can wear, causing them to misalign. Keep checking. Also - is the belt snapping clean, or do you see a burnt, worn spot?
