SOURCE: when draining water out of the sink, it backflows
Actually no they do not have a back flow preventer, make sure the dishwasher drain connection is installed on top of the "P" trap, if it is then you are having drain problems , remove and clean the "P" trap if it not clodded then you need your pipes cleaned out if it is backing up in dishwasher.. Do it sooner than later or may become totally stopped up..
SOURCE: Dishwasher wont drain
Hi,
There is a check valve that would prevent you from blowing back into the machine. I would recommend taking that hose and putting it into a bucket, turn the machine on and see if it drains, if so you have an issue with the house drain if not then take the hose off the machine. You can take the toe panel off with a couple of screws and the drain hose should be right up front. Have lots of towels ready to catch anything.

Your drain hose should be secured up inside the cabinet at a level higher than the base of the sink to prevent water from going from the disposer back into the dishwasher. There is a anti back-up valve in most dishwashers, but they are not totally effective against water from the sink coming back into the machine.
Get yourself some bread ties and get that hose up as high as you can under the sink so that it comes out of the disposer, goes up, and then back down to the dishwasher. This will also prevent crud from getting accumulated at the end of the drain hose where it connects.
Good luck!

If the installation instructions have the "high-loop" drain hose option... they do, in fact, have a back flow valve.
If that high-loop is not documented... Please spend the $10 or $20 bucks to keep it legal.
Manufacturers cannot suggest the high loop without a back flow valve on the supply side... as a failure to use a sink mounted "AIR-GAP" ... would then carry the high risk of mixing sewage water with your <community> drinking water supply...Yuk!
Even so... it would still be possible to have fresh sewage in the dishwasher.
Be prepared to show the Factory installation documents...to your friendly building inspector...
Who is only there in the interest of you... and your water community's water purity...and very well aware of the dangers of disease... poisoning etc.
Turning a blind eye to your neighbor can very well contaminate your water as well...
Think about it!
Be safe/smart... It is your health as well.
My answers are short and sweet. Common sense mostly. If you are trying to get something for nothing...Don't waste my time! Remember if something sounds to good to be true that it usually is. I've spent many years of my life trying to cheat the system and was pretty good at it. This all changed when I discovered that people were doing the same thing to me. What comes around, goes around. Karma! Now I assist people in making win-win deals...that are legit!
