I have a 42" Vivitek DLP tv that I purchased a few years ago from HSN or one of those online shopping channels. It's been working fine but have had a problem with loosing picture then have to shut it down and restart. Now the tv will not even start up. I can hear the motor or fan kick in but then it stops within a few seconds. Both LED's on the front blink on and off. Normally is just the top one that blinks. The bottom one normally just turns different color when I turn the tv on. Now it blinks along with the top on. Eventually both lights go out and then the bottom stays on like it normally does when turned off. Do I need a new bulb?

theres a digital module that comes with the light engine..but your gonna spend some dough..probably only available with a complete light engine replacement..sry
your cable or satellite will do just fine. i have
a vivitek rp51 and i was told that if i lost my remote i was SOT well i
found out that the parent company of vivitek is DELTA and wouldn't you
know it i programmed my direct tv remote using the brand delta wich was
on the list and it worked... by the way vivitek is not on any list for
remote control codes....
most cable company remotes have a manual search option for tv codes usually a code listing book with the remote or on or under the remote battery cover see if you can manually search for the code that way however some tvs cannot be programmed to all cable company equipmet
Sounds like maybe your color wheel needs to be replaced. If you have noticed a humming noise in conjunction with the intermittent colors, then that is most likely the issue.
My 51" Vivitek started to hum loudly about 2 months ago and I kind of ignored it ,but it got so loud and annoying I had to do something.First changed the bulb and then bought a color wheel at www.vancebaldwin.com .Login as guest and then enter your model number into corresponding box. They have a few Vivitek parts.
I replaced my color wheel myself and it works great!
I'd be happy to help any way I can.
Good luck!
In my experience, the humming means your color wheel is going. The bearings inside the wheel are probably giving out.
My Vivitek started humming a couple of months ago and first I replaced the lamp.
Still hummed.
I read in other forums that humming is linked to color wheels and that seemed like where the noise was coming from.
I purchased a new wheel online and replaced it myself...
..no more humming, the picture is great and now I can listen to the movie again...not the tv!
