Fax like noise - Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Telephone Expansion Handset

Have the phone line check for noise. If the noise is loud the fax is unable to here the other fax and can not hand shake.

A knocking noise is typically a bad bearing, probably in the fuser. You can try lubricating the bearings (once the fuser has cooled down) and see if the noise goes away. If not, the bearings might need to be replaced in order to get rid of the noise.

Solution

Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

What happens if you dial your fax number the way you make a normal voice call? Does the fax machine pick the line up? Can you hear it making electronic noises? Do you hear any static or line noise?
Try also putting a regular phone on the fax line and attempt to make voice calls to test the lin quality. Listen for static, noise, volume issues. Report problems to your telecom company if you have trouble in voice calls.

Recieving faxes

• Plug a regular, non-digital, phone into the fax's phone line and see if you get a dial tone
  • If you do not have a dial tone, seek support from your telephone service provider
• Dial the fax number from a phone    
  • Normal circumstance is that you will have the fax machine pick up and make high-pitched noises
  • If the fax does not pick up, put a regular phone on the fax line and see if the regular phone rings when dialed
    • If the phone rings, answer it and see if there is line noise
      • If the line is clear, call the service number listed on your fax
      • If the line is staticy or unclear, call your telephone service provider
    • If the phone does not ring, call your telephone service provider

Sending faxes

• Attempt to dial the fax number you are trying to send to from another phone.
  • If you hear electronic noises on the line, the other end has a fax machine on the other end
    • Check to see if you can recieve faxes.
  • If the remote fax does not answer, the problem is on the remote side, contact the recipient

You'll need to replace the pickup roller.

take off the  two side cover, watch the gear rolling while printing you will find the noise come from, might be one of the gear is broken, certified technician will do the same thing when they troubleshoot the problem too, good luck
