What does it mean "run pump for temp" and how do I deal with it? I'm just setting up the hot tub at the cottage and it is taking a long time to heat up. Thanks

the heater element is in the pump housing and needs the pump running so that the heated water is circulated to get it all hot
with no pump operation all that is getting hot is the pump housing area and that will burn out the element

How do you set the timer on a 1996 hot tub? It has an old timer with things (prongs) that you have to push/pull?!

These types of timers were used and are still used for many different devices. The dial represents the clock and you pull or push for the hours you want the device to run during the 24 hour clock. For a hot tub you will want circulation for at least 4 - 6 hours a day. To circulate but also to maintain the heat. With a good hot tub cover and good insulation inside the tub your circulating time would be less and save you some money. Hope that helps. 6f0fd63b-b068-4b09-9479-fc1b67bc8e93.jpg 29c9802b-b80d-438e-9f6a-66c31c024fd8.jpg

Hello,I have an old jacuzzi vectra II hot tub (1988) 120 volt.the gfci on the unit trips every time the pump is on low speed with the thermostat calling for heat. there is no trip when there is no demand...

hi,

ok so when the pump is on high and the heater is running it doesent trip? you didnt say if it did. undo the heater leads so the pump is isolated completely. run the pump on the control centers gfci and see if it trips. if it does then try wiring directly - with an extension cord to a plug with a gfci in your house and see if it trips the gfci in your bathroom. if no trip inside house then bypass tubs gfci and run it with heater and pump through your bathroom gfci. if no trip then try and replace the tubs gfci, it gets pretty humid in the control center and gfci's have a semiconductor which which do fail after years of rough duty like that. if it trips the gfci in your house with the heater again it has a cracked heater element. craigslist always has old hot tubs and parts. you might have to buy a whole used old hot tub but that may be cheaper than a new heater box.

I want to upgade from my old water tank to a tankless water system. I have underfloor heating and it has 4 zones but i run it as one zone and it is controlled from a therm ostat that controlls a pump.I...

what you have is called a hydronic heating system.
this heating system is completely isolated from your water heater I believe this as most hydronic systems I have installed circulate water through the furnace to heat the house. If this is true you need only to connect your old water heater cold water supply side to the tankless and, old hot water side to the house system: the showers/tubs/sinks etc. in your home.
my appologies if I have missunderstood your inquiry.

Parkray Cumbria efficiency problem

Some circulation pumps have a 3 phase mixing valve (cold, warm, hot) to regulate the water pressure in the building; no way to know unless you trace the plumbing. Basically, the hot water temperature could be lost because the circ-pump is cooling it with the cold water supplied to it. This is used to balance the pressure (aka Pressure Balancing Circ-Pump), so heater is really working overtime to heat the water. If the pump has two in and one out that's more than likely your problem; but you should consult a "old-school" plumber in your area.
