I have a Briggs 18.0 Intek - seems to be locking up when crankin

My briggs 18.0 Intek seems to be locking up when cranking. I think it is a valve adjustment issue. I can't seem to find the proper clearance for the valves. Can anyone provide me with this info?

Set valve clearance at.004 on intake and exhaust.Sounds more like a weak starter or battery.Forty years in small engine repair.I own a briggs twenty six horse extended series engine,it started doing the same thing three months after I bought it,had a defective starter, they don't build em to last anymore

I have a briggs &straton intek 26 hp and the compresion seems to be not releasing.what can i do?

If the valves are adjusted too loose, the compression release will not work, and will make starting the engine difficult. I believe the clearance is supposed to be .005". If the clearance is too large, the 'bump' on the cam will not move the valve off its seat when cranked slowly, and compression will make the engine hard to crank over.

Briggs 20HP Intek sputters under load

reset the valves to specifications by gaping them all to .008 thousands The vibration will continuely make the gap wider causing this problem to get worst. Gap the valves is recommeded every other year

17HP Briggs Intek engine ran good then quit. Now

Intake and exhaust valves need adjustment. Intake .004, exhaust .012.
look for wear or loose rocker arm bolt before adjusting valves.
