Toro 22" recycler won't start, backfires and blade becomes loose
Ran for most of a day, hit a high spot with dirt and gravel and blade came loose. Can't start it after. Backfires frequently with violent retraction of starter cord.

Sounds like they need cleaning & oiling. Check that nothing is keeping it from moving. I have ran over string or cord before & got caught and wrapped around wheel.
Is the engine seized?. Try turning the blade and if it won't turn then you have a seized engine. If that is ok your recoil has a stuck part possibly something has broken off inside. If it's an older model try shooting WD40 inside the recoil as it could be rusty.
Hi. It's not locked. The piston has siezed up maybe for lack of oil or sitting too long. It is time to retire it. If your son or daughter or grand kids has some mechanical in them. They can tare it apart and fix it. Good luck.
