I have a Nikon D70. Camera doesn't read CF.

The D70 uses CF (compact flash) cards - I hope you are simply misnaming the CF card. But, if you did use an SD card, it would explain how you could have bent a pin.

I understand that Nikon is moving away from CF cards because of the 'bent pin issue' as well as the limited capacity of the CF card.

So, first I would try a CF card (any size) in the reader. If it still doesn't work, then I think you might check with a camera repair shop. If it is a bent pin, they can fix or replace the card reader. Thus, I wouldn't pay $100 to have the reader fixed unless there are extenuating circumstances. Good luck.

I understand what your're looking for.

The D100 is basically an N80 with digital guts. It doesn't share the same chassis as the D70, although it does share the same excellent battery.

Other than that, the D70 was a new design, so it doesn't seem too likely that they would have the same CF sockets.

That being said, unless I had them both stripped apart on the table in front of me, I wouldn't make any bets. It just seems like there would be slight differences in mounting holes and configuration.

You don't give much info but I'll assume you have a Nikon D70 'cos that's where you posted your question...1. Battery needs to be charged first. Get a cheap EN-EL3 battery and charger from eBay if you need these. 2. Put a Compact Flash (CF) card in. The camera locks the shutter if there is no card (to avoid the embarrassment of shooting all day and losing your images). CF cards themselves do not have locks. 3. If you just want to test the camera with no card you can enable this in one of the camera settings menus. Press the "Menu" button on the back, navigate to the pencil icon and find item 6 (I think). It is called "NO CF CARD" and the options are: LOCK or RELEASE shutter. 4. Of course you do know you need to turn the camera on first...? Turn the little black rotary button/ring around the silver shutter release button.

CHA errors indicate a communication issue with the CF card. Your card could be going bad, you could have a broken pin, or any number of other problems.

I'm running into this same problem now. If anyone has a good step-by-step to troubleshoot which of the dozen things this error could be, I'd appreciate it.

For myself, I'm planning to start by trying a new CF card.

This camera allows at most a 4GB CF card, are you trying to use something larger, or does it do this with any size card? Also make sure card isnt write protected. Failing either of these suggestions, its possible that something has happened to the card slot internal to camera, they can be quite fragile.

You can connect the camera to the computer via a USB cable and use the camera as the card reader. It will show up as a mass storage device. You should then be able to copy the images to your PC and format the card once recovered.

I don’t know why you PDA can not read your card but I found some infrmations about parts which are compatible with e800. As far as I know this types are compatible with e800.
