You should probably replace the bulb. If the filament is broken, the heat will cause it to open and close as it heats, expands, then breaks contact and cools again. This could also be a problem in an internal connection that is intermittent. Heat causes expansion of parts and that expansion breaks the connection and the flow of electrical current. When it cools off, it makes contact again and the process repeats itself. As the point of break in the current wears from repeated heating and cooling, the contact widens and the time takes longer.

This problem will likely be at a connector, the switch, the bulb socket, or in the bulb itself.

You can oil any two metal parts that move togeather or through each other. Do not oil bearings and do not oil gears. Do not use 3 in 1 oil or WD-40. Use regular sewing machine oil.
801's were made from 1979 - 1982. The way Bernina dated these on the machine is by the serial number. Your number would probably start with a 0 or a 1. 1970 is a 0, 1971 is 01, 1980 is 1, 1981 is 11, 1990 is 2, 1991 is 21 etc. etc.

SOURCE: I have a bernina sport 801 and the fabri feeder

There is a small knob on the lower part of the main body under the stitch length lever. This controls the feed dog up or down. Make sure that it turns easily and fully to both positions. If it does and your problem persists, the feed dog height adjusting point is probably loose. A knowledgeable repair person needs to look at it. It is not a difficult repair, but several approaches need to be taken.

SOURCE: How do I change the light bulb in my Bernina 1000?

You need a little rubber hose that fits over bulb to twist or pull it out, else use some blue tac to grip it with.

SOURCE: how do I change the

There is a small brown screwdriver/gadget that came in your accessory box included with the Bernina 1230. At one end, it is black plastic with a small point coming out of it. That end is used for tightening or loosening the screw that holds the needle in place. On the opposite end (brown on mine) it is hollow. This hollow end is pushed up and onto the lightbulb. (The bulb fits into the hollow.) Push up (firmly) and twist to the left to remove the light. To replace the bulb, insert the new one into the hollow spot on the holder and push it up and into the receptacle - twist to the right to lock it in place. There are actually two light bulbs, the one on the right is covered by a diffuser, but they both use the same procedure. It's easy to do and you are meant to be able to do it yourself. The pictures and instructions are on page 51 of the Bernina Guide. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: How do I change the

The machine should have came with a light bulb tool, to help you get it out.
Very very hard to do that with out the tool.
You can get it at your local bernina dealer, or they should change it for free.
Does that machine have a power switch on the back top of the machine, there is a good chance that if it does it is bad. They go bad all the time. Some dont have the switch.

How do I change a light bulb in my Bernina 707?

I don't have a 707 but do have a 530-2 Record. Unfortunately, with some of these older machines, Bernina did not provide a very good method for accessing the light bulb. On later machines, the side cover would either be hinged or removable. If yours doesn't have this capability, the only way of changing the bulb is by reaching in with your fingertips, gripping, and turning the bulb to remove it and then installing the new bulb in the reverse manner (difficult for someone with big fingers). Sometimes it helps to use thin rubber gloves (like the surgical type), lightly moisten the finger tips to provide more "grip." There is also a sewing tool available that is somewhat like a pencil with a rubber suction at the end made specifically to help with replacing sewing machine bulbs. If you are creative, you may be able to fashion something similar.

Have you tried LED bulbs? I've installed them in all my Berninas. They provide a lot more light and do not get as hot as the regular bulbs--as well as, they supposedly last much longer! They seem expensive at the outset but if I never have to change a bulb again, so much the better!

In case you need it, here is the manual for your machine:

How do I change the light bulb on my Bernina 1530?

You might check out some of the older Bernina manuals to get an idea of how it may work in your machine. The 1260 is the closest manual available. Looks like your machine takes the same push-in bulb. So, you would push up on the bulb and twist. Then you would install the replacement the same way. Sometimes, using tight fitting medical gloves helps grip the bulb in order to twist.

BTW--I have older Berninas and upgraded their bulbs to LED.

Change a light bulb in Bernina 1008 sewing machinge

If you still have original Acessories there should have been a grey or brown cone shaped rubber gripper that could be slid up on bulb to assist in turning it If not remove the side cover, then back cover to access the bulb. Some 1008's have push in bulb others screw in so be careful not to break bulb as you remove it
push in bulbs must be pushe in and rotated 45 degrees counter clockwise to remove. Of course screw in bulbs just rotated counter clockwise to remove

How do I Replace light bulb in bernina 1010

Theres a gray flexible cap about 1.5" long and .75" in diameter that comes with the machine. It is used as a tool to screw and unscrew the bulb. Weirdly I have had my machine since I bought it new in about 1987 and have never replaced the bulb. And I do use it, at times heavily.
