Spark requires ignition switch in run or start and operator in seat. Try disconnecting the seat switch.

If still no spark check the green wire at the ignition switch terminal M (magneto) for continuity to battery negative (ground). With ignition switch in the off position the green wire will have continuity to ground. In any other position it should be open or high impedance.

SOURCE: wont start

There's only 2 more things that I can think of, check the fuse for the ignition, then the computor itself, you did everything else.It might be the problem and may not.

SOURCE: 1989 JD 2155 2WD tractor, cannot start engine,

Have you tried crossing the large post of the starter with the small terminal that has the engagement wire going to it[with the machine in neutral and the range lever in neutral if course].If this will make the tractor turn over then the problem is likely the neutral safety switch located under the panel that is covering the transmission just rear of the sticks.

SOURCE: JD model # 135 wont start -

yes.. you need to be sitting on the seat to start the engine as you have to have the brake peddle depress as well

Hi, I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are saying.
You have power on the big red wire, right?
And you also have power to the orange wire when the switch is turned to start?
Does the starter turn when you put a piece of metal between the orange and red wires?
And when the starter turns, the car starts or doesn't start?

SOURCE: I have a JD 160

Most likely cause is the seat safety switch is not functioning properly, ie. when sitting in it to allow blades to engage, if failed it will act like there is no one on the mower and the blades get engaged it will kill the engine, like having the ignition shut off.

I hope this is helpful to you.

185 sullair 3 blinks any idea why it's dying?

Isn't there a button you hold in until oil pressure recovers when starting, the button is usually next to the starter switch.

Cannot start YTH 170. Turning starter key gives rattle from engine but no apparent spark. Belt plug OK.

Unless you damaged engine this may just be an electrical problem. a starter bendix will "rattle" if there isnt enough power to turn the starter. make sure the battery is charged, tighten battery cables and any larger red wire connections AFTER you temporarily disconect the red or positive battery cable

I have a 185 kawasaki bayou atv. the neutral light won't come on,you got to hold the shifter down alittle .how can i fix this? will not start untill it is on.it it is a 1986

I had a similar problem. pull start worked no problem, and starter only sometimes. turns out the starting system as a whole (starter, old wires, solenoid etc) were drawing so much power that it wasn't allowing much for power for the coil and spark. it was too weak

Have no spark on a ts 185

No spark can sometimes be a difficult diagnose, but just remember to start at one end and work your way through. Start by making sure the kill switch is not faulty, your ignition, do you have power going to the lights?, i guess your TS has points and a condensor, so, things to check would be all your connections, spark plug and spark plug cap, coil and all connectors, points, make sure they are correct gap, Most of these things can be checked with a multimeter, or unfortunately by replacing one component at a time, until you find the faulty one. It could be something as simple as a loose or broken wire. Just take a good close look at every thing starting from your key, right through to the battery.

Believe I need to replace the starter on my john

Remove the negative (red) cable from the starter. Remove the two mounting screws that attaches the starter to the side of the engine. A JD dealer can check to see if it is bad.
