Hello,
If you think you can open the laptop safely, open it and find the backup battery, read its model number and go buy another battery and replace defective part. If you do it yourself you have to open laptop anyway :either to find battery or to replace battery.
If you feel uncomfortable opening the laptop, take it to a repair shop (does not have to be an HP center) and have battery replaced and computer clock adjusted.

Hope it helps

Sounds like you uwant to change your CMOS battery. You should bring this to a professional so as to not damage your computer. If you don't know what you are doing to will cause more damage than a worn out CMOS battery

Comment changer l'heure

N'parlez vous Francais
I'm sorry my French is a little rusty,,,,are you asking about changing time and date on your desktop computer?

Put your mouse cursor on the time, then Right-click on it.
Change the time and date.

If the time and date changes back after you have reset it, then you have a bad CMOS battery. Replace it.
This is a type of watch battery. Generally it is a CR2032.
This flat coin looking CMOS battery is located on the motherboard.

Make sure the computer is off and unplugged from power.
FOLLOW anti-static precautions. (If you do not you will fry out the computer)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao866I9XpTo
Remove the CMOS battery and replace.
If you come back in a Comment, and state the computer manufacturer name, and model number, I should be able to lead you step by step in replacing the CMOS battery.

Error is the firmware has detected that a coms battery failure occurred

Hello!
i just want to inform you that CMOS battery failure is not a big deal
you just need to replace CMOS battery from the motherboard
CMOS battery is responsible for date and time management in you PC
also it gives a refrence point in time and space when booting
so if you are a serious programmer you may change it immidiately
and if you are a normal user and you are least bothered with system time and date then
you may keep ignoring this message.

I could not save the system time & date. The time & date remains till there system is not rebooted. After reboot it changes time again

The most possible cause for that is the cmos battery at the mainboard. Open the case and try to locate a round small battery like this
0a76ded.jpg
Remove it and using this as a sample buy a new one (it's about 2-5Euros cost). Repalce with the new one and you are ready. After changing the battery a good advice is to get into the bios settings and check them, because sometimes are resetting at default after changing the battery.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

I have 0271 error can get into bios but not able to change the date and time??

Hi,

The error means that you have to change the BIOS battery first before trying to change the date and time.
As far as i know with IBM's the CMOS (RTC) battery is located under one of the panels underneath the laptop and is usually covered with red, blue or yellow plastic with wires coming from it. Disconnect the battery and replace it

Once the CMOS battery is replaced you can set the date and time and no more error messages.

Pc time changes to the old one always

The most likely cause is that your bios battery on your motherboard has gone flat.

Normally bios batteries are 3V button batteries. They are relatively generic. I think the battery size number is CR2032.

These batteries are relatively easy to change, if you are familiar with the insides of your PC.
