03 Silverado 1500 250xxx miles 5.3L 4wheel drive Got home one night truck was running great .. go-to leave for work next morning and truck just cranks and cranks headlights come on and dash lights up and check engine light illuminates (however was normally on due to an 02 sensor) BUT none of the needles "come alive " you know how they typically go all the way up then back down ... Yeah I got nothin but I can hear a very very soft hum from inside the gauges... Also no fuel pump ... But all other electrical things seem to work fine ..... Now if I hook up a battery charger and turn the key my gauges all "come alive" as they should and every dummy light in my gauges comes on but I get the little car with a padlock through it and it STAYS light ... Doesn't blink. Or go away ... I've tried the whole attempt to start truck leave key in on position for 10 minutes shut it off for 10 seconds and repeat 3 times trick with. No luck... That passlock light stays on always ... Pull the charger back off and there's no life in my gauges... I know battery is good I even tried a brand new battery still same outcome .. WTF

Sounds like your passlock security has definitely been activated - this can have several causes, and you may be able to diagnose it checking for trouble codes. The electrical problems suggest another cause - various electronic devices/computers in the truck operate at several different voltages (not just 12V) and there is a power module in the truck which converts 12V to the other voltages. A failure in that module can cause all kinds of odd problems including the hum.

That's kinda where I was thinking to ... I went and picked up 2 pcms from a scrap yard for 15 bucks each and figure its worth a shot right ? I know using anything other then a reman is frowned upon but that's why I got 2 ... Otherwise it's gotta be a bad ground right ?

If your PCM is faulty, it will generate trouble codes. Could be a bad ground - if I were you, I would check the wiring diagrams at Alldatadiy.com to track down all the wiring and devices that could be a problem.

I had this issue once myself. I worked my tilt steering up and down trying to get my truck to start at different positions. It finally started after about 2 minutes of trying. Never had that issue since either. Good luck with it.

Check for fuel pressure first..there should be a place to check for fuel pressure on the fuel rail...sounds like your fuel pump quit and it may be time to replace it but check fuel pressure and in the fuse compartment check the fuel pump relay

The fuel pump is fine . A bad fuel pump wouldn't cause my gauges cluster to malfunction

SOURCE: Service Engine Soon Light comes on but doesn not stay on.

If your battery starts turns the engine over, it is doing it's job well. It sounds like your engine computer is not liking the cold engine. If it has been a while since a tune up, it would not hurt to go ahead and do it, but if it runs ok after it warms up, I sould not worry about it a whole lot. When the engine is cold, the egr valve and other things that are made to limit polution tend to stick and give the computer bad readings. A serious tune up may fix it, and I think should, but you MAY still be in the same boat! That does not FIX it for you, but should ease your mind on the light.

SOURCE: Whole Electrical system shuts down when ignition key turned

Try cleaning the battery connectors at both ends and make sure the ground at the frame is clear of rust. If that check out, drop the starter and have it bench tested

SOURCE: truck wont crank each time

It sounds to me like that you have several different issues with you vech and on the pass lock system will not cause all the problems listed how ever it will cause the no crank and after five min or 30 min start it is most likely the pass lock sensor unless your truck has a pk3 system (the key will have a + or pk3 stamped on it)If it is a pk3 system then it may be the theft detturent module if ton a pk3 system then most likely a pass lock sensor . Take the vech to some one that can ck for codes and find out all the codes set in the vech. This will tell a whole lot about what is going on with the vech .Im not very good on drivabilty problems. The evap leak and the mis fire will not be related to the pass lock problem.

Hey Anon, Yes, drive it to the tranny shop..plan to leave it... sounds like you are in for a rebuild.. this is typical for GM RWD transmissions.. I have seen TOO many do this same thing,, (I have had TWO in for this... vehicles I inherited that were not maintained)..GM transmissions on RWD's must have the fluid and filter changed every 50K - 75K and a complete fluid exchange and filter replacement every 120K -150K MINIMUM for them to last..usually cost around $1200 - $1400.. sorry.. Good luck!

Battery not charging message. Took battery to have tested was told battery good. I charge battery every night and starts next morning last about 10-15 mins driving. I am not getting service 4wheel drive...

Most likely you have a bad alternator. The alternator maintains the the charging system. you have the option to remove the alternator and take it to the parts store and have it tested too!.

After pressing the 4 wheel drive button it just blinks a few times and stops then 2wheel drive lights comes on. 4wheel drive worked fine the day b 4

these damn things do this all the time, my 03 ? you cant count on it to work any day of the week ! you just get lucky and it works. I get all lights flashing, i get the nuetral light on yet it is in 2 hi. I'm tired of all the codes and replacing parts, 700.00 dollars later and still the same. I just drive it and it fixes itself in a day, maybe next time i start truck. It worked the best when i sealed all the electrical plugs in moisture proof wrapping, but a few months later and its a guess game again so i just drive it !

1997 mpv mini van runs great. While traveling i drove from SC to Atl GA....parked and went into motel for evening...the next morning i had very difficult time getting it re started....Like it was not...

I think you should check your battery and alternator. If they both check good you may have a battery draw, something draining the battery over night.Check your doors make sure they are closing like they should.
