Battery-powered string trimmer cuts out

I have a Toro battery-powered string trimmer that starts but cuts out in less than a minute. I have cleaned it and made sure that the screens are clear. It was working fine until recently so I don't know what has changed for it to not run continuously.

Probably needs a carb kit, check main jet and main fuel inlet jet, is the spark crisp, fat and powerful, try running it with a borrowed coil as this may have an intermittent fault. Is fuel cap breather working or blocked, these small carbs are very sensitive. Make sure all is well with gaskets and diagrahms. Good luck the Yeti

SOURCE: engine runs then quits

You may have a small air leak at the carb, sometimes found at the bulb primer. This allows the engine to stop picking up fuel due to sucking air into the fuel line. If you re-prime, it will run again for a short period?

I dont know what string to use in my toro 8" battery trimmer

The thinner string works well in these machines and puts a lot less strain on them. I would suggest using a string of .065 range. The thicker (and more expensive) string used in the gas machines is too heavy for these lower powered electric units.

String breaking

Check to ensure that the string is the correct size as specified in the owners manual. If ok check age of the string. If old it has a tendancy to be brittle. If new and supple try letting the trimmer get up to full speed and let the tip of the string do the cutting. Avoid taking on too much at once with this trimmer as the electric and battery trimmers are not as powerful as their gas counterparts. I hope this helps.
