Hi, I know I am late to the party, but this may help others with same problem- blank screen or 'please wait'.
I bought a kit of 3 capacitors from beckettsmusic.co.uk capacitor set to remedy start up problem on clp 150, clp170, pf500 service news sn395.
cost me £10. The kit came with clear instructions on what capacitors to replace.. Replaced old capacitors, problem solved. The service pack was originally intended to get over a cold environment issue, these clavinova had a problem starting when cold. But mine stopped working when it was 20yrs old, whether it was hot or cold. The new capacitors solved it. A reasonably easy DIY repair if you have a soldering iron.
my clavinova was earlier thant the serial number range given in the kit, but it still worked.
good luck.

Hi ...
There are flexible cables that connect the keys to the main electronics. The connectors for those cables sometimes age poorly..
It is fixable. But dont "get taken" on a repair.
If it's just resoldering a few points,it shouldnt be more than $100.00
to fix

Without power to the unit no sound should be generated. Make sure there are no other connections.
MAYBE you have a wall transformer behind it that is buzzing. MANY wall transformers develop buzz.
Another source is flourescent lights and even some of the low voltage halogens have noisy transformers in the base.

It sounds like one "leg" of a switching power supply is having problems. Replacing the entire power supply
(internally) will probably bring it back to life.
It couldn't hurt to crack it open and look for any disconnected wires or components also.
Cheers & Good Luck!
