Unit is from early 2016. Opening the door, and removing the cover, reveals that the motor which has a part number I am unable to find anywhere online, and says something like saia 90ohm, looks fine upon visual inspection. Removing the "latch" at the bottom of the "spindle" the motor is attached to, allows me to bring the dispenser down, so I can take it out, and give it a clean, but it makes no difference.
Defective brew unit drive.
Replace it and you are good to go.
It's always recommended to replace brew unit also.
Greetings from the Miele guy
Just to be clear, the machine works and makes coffee, it's just that the coffee spout doesn't auto adjust height, so right now I simply stand the espresso cup up on some coasters so it does make a big mess when pouring.
I've just ordered a new brew unit, pr your advice, but I am unable to locate a "brew unit drive" either among miele spare parts page, nor ebay and such; Could you perhaps point me towards where such a thing is sold?
Thank you
Yes I see. You have to take of the back cover of the door. Some torx T10 screws. There you will gain access to the spout height adjustment. Try to manual wind it back up. And test it. You will see what I mean when you open it.
Maybe it's stuck, the motor is not powerfull so that may be the case.
If not, look after broken pieces of that mechanism.
If non of the above, either defective motor or electronic board.
Thank you for the comment, I truly appreciate it!
I did previously try and remove the back cover, and while I could not turn the spindle manually using just my fingers, while it was attached, removing the "latch" at the bottom, enabled me to easily raise and lower the spout. The motor says "saia 90ohm" and a part number, but I have been unable to find the motor anywhere. Do you know of a place where one can order motor/electronic board replacements?
Could I wire up some sort of battery directly to the motor, to test if it works? - I don't currently have an adjustable power supply :(
It's a DC motor. So you need a DC power supply to test it. Try 9 volt battery. I'm not 100% of the operating voltage of the motor. I believe it's 12v DC. 9V battery is safe.
When I am doing diagnostics I use a computer with optical interface to connect to machine. From there I can check and test every component with the computer. So I have never tested the motor in any other way.
There I can also read out error codes and so on.
I'm afraid you have to buy direct from Miele
To make this a lot easier for you, you should find a Miele service senter and have them read out the fault memory. That could spare you a lot of money and time
I am in contact with Miele now, but the unit is out of warranty (3 years old), so getting a service tech. out will be very expensive; Hence why I am trying to diagnose myself first. If it's a 15$ stepper motor, paying Miele 500$/hr. is silly.
The machine has done about 2000 cups, and I paid 150$ for the new brew unit on e-bay last night, so that is fine to have in reserve.
Thank you for all your help; If you're ever in Copenhagen, let me know, beer (and maybe coffee!) is on me ;)
