Some one gave me the machine and I was trying to figure out how to use it. Maybe make buttonholes
You may be able to buy a CDRom of it at https://www.ebay.com/itm/KENMORE-158-1357-13571-1525-15251-1660-1947-Sewing-Machine-Manual-on-CD-Disk/161055621700?hash=item257fa9c244:g:VxEAAMXQDrJRzdC8

So far I've only been able to find this page. It's $8.00 to download. Considerably cheaper than a new machine!

Hope it helps.
I've been looking too and I found here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=18328that you need to put the bar behind the needle threader down. I think they call it a button hole stop? I don't know, but it worked. I didn't even know it existed. But it solved my problem. On my Kenmore it looks like a black lever and you pull it down. It tells the button-holer that you are at the end of the hole and it needs to backup. nifty, kind of.

if you email me on [email protected] I can send you the scanned pages
the buttonhole foot snaps on to the presser bar, there's a little lever at the back of the presser bar that releases the foot, then put the buttonhole foot down on the needle plate & use the presser foot lifter (number 11) to lower the presser bar down onto the buttonhole foot & you'll hear a click sound when it snaps on & make sure to use the buttonhole lever(number 31) because the machine won't sew a buttonhole unless that lever is pulled down.
