Try using a different browser like Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Chrome. Are you using a different computer? If so, the website may not recognize any cookies, sometimes this will result in an error code or preventing you from signing in even with the correct id/password. Make sure you are using caps or non caps as your sign in may be case sensitive.
If you are still unable to sign in with a different brower or using the computer you normally use, you may need to change your preferences. Go to messenger and click on "connection preferences", then click on "connect directly to the internet", click "apply", click "Ok" to sign back in.
If all else fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling messenger. Go to Control Panel and click on "Programs" Find messenger and click uninstall. Then go to
http://messenger.yahoo.com/ to download and reinstall.
