Red error light is flashing on Brother HL-2040

Hi,

I had a paper jam in the printer but I removed the paper causing the problem. However, now the red error light is flashing. No other lights are on. I have tried unplugging and replugging... turning on and off.. fiddling around looking inside a bit but have had no luck in getting the error light turned off. I really need to print for some uni courses and have no idea how to fix this problem.

There are several possibilities with too many to type here so, here is a link to the Brother troubleshooting page that gives several causes for the flashing red light. When you get to the page, scroll down until you see the "lashing "paper" light.

When I turn on the printer the light paper flashes
The paper light flashing because there is some paper inside the printer. Open the front cover and remove the cartridge and look inside for the jammed paper. Remove the jammed paper and insert the cartridge , closed the front cover and switch on the printer.
It will help you to solve the problem.

Flashing red light - no paper jam
I had this problem and couldn't figure out until I opened the front, pulled out the toner cartridge and found a paper jam.  Removed it and now I have the green light.

Make sure to clean all the rollers you can see and make sure to check the paper sensor, and clean all rollers and paper paths with some Isopropyl Alcohol (AKA rubbing alcohol)

light explain link check first!.... paper jam light indicates a few things ie paper mismatch.

possible dirty feed roller, confirm by using bypass slot.

slightly damp rag on rubber feed roller to clean if the issue

Printing mailing list
Sounds to me like the word doc's page size is not set to the same as your printers tray.

In word, file , page set up. page size/paper size is set to "letter" in US I think is standard, it's A4 in Oz

On printer driver check page size setting too

Contral panel, printers and faxs, RIgHT click on brother printer icon, properties, printing preferences, page size
