That is the best way. Changing the combination is done from inside the door panel. This is a dial safe, so not quite so easy. Sentry will tell you the original code. Having said that, most people who can't open a combination safe are doing it wrong. It isn't like they show it in the films, one way to number, other way to number, back again to a number and it opens. It is 4 complete revolutions to number, 3 revolutions to number, 2 revolutions to number and 1 part revolution to open the lock bar.

Contact a locksmith. Most likely it will need to be drilled.

Either sit it on a cushion and thump it with your hand, then quickly turn the open knob (takes practise) or drop it an inch or two onto a hard surface and quickly turn the opening knob.
This will release the locking solendoid for a 1/2 second allowing you to open it if you're quick.
You can then set a new password byu pressing the button inside.
The default password is usually 159 so try that first.

Sounds like it’s just a process of elimination there is only 12 different ways you can mix the numbers on a three digit sentry safe combination. Just try all 12 it has to open unless you are dialing it incorrectly. Sentry Safe dialing instructions.

A1 locksmith will tell you.
If your safe doesn't have a key, skip Step 3.
Turn the dial to zero.
Insert your sentry safe key and turn it until the plunger pops out.
Turn the dial to the left (counterclockwise) three times to the first number of the combination (pass the first number of your combination two times, stopping on it the third time).
Turn the dial to the right (clockwise) two times to the second number of the combination (pass your second number once, stopping on it the second time).
Turn the dial to the left to the last number (stop the first time on your last number).
Pull the handle down; cracking sentry safe open.
