Depending on the laptop, you can sometimes just remove the cmos battery, and it will clear that password. The battery might be accessable by removing one of the cover panels on the bottom of the laptop. You need to unplug the power, remove the battery, and then open the panels and see if you see a small battery, or set of batteries plugged in. If so unplug them, let the computer sit for several minutes unplugged, and then put it back together.
