F2 is a membrane switch error.

1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
2. Replace membrane switch.
3. If problem persists, replace electronic control.
4. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
5. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

The answer to your question is YES. I would venture to say the PART is - but not the labor. You would need to read your warranty to confirm.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. There is a part here that no one is telling you. These key pads go bad most of the time due to moisture. Now what idiot would put a pad on a microwave that sits over an overtop and make it porous when there is nothing but steam coming from the top of a stove 90% of the time. I also was told after two weeks that I need to take my whole front off to replace a fuse. A service tech told me I couldn't do this on my own. The fuse by the way was under the vent, you know that thing you take off and clean every once in a while. If you have a problem with your microwave please check your fuse first, you can tell if it's gone it will be black at one end or the other or both. It sits just to the right of your vent so hands are all you need plus a $2 fuse. If I had a tech come out it would have cost me $89. This is just another one of those big company jokes on us hard working people to make us pay more and more for less and less quality. Ship it overseas, get it done by other people who are being paid nothing to do the things we should be doing in the U.S. and then give us the shaft at the same time. What a game, then if they get in trouble with money problems all they have to do is tell the government and get bail out money. NOT US, that is for sure, we have to go to some sort of welfare office and prove week after week that we are so poor we can't make it and would have to live on the street. I won't let myself go that direction but really some of us have to wake up!

Error code F2

Per the tech sheets (page 8), "F2" error code means "Keyboard failure". Recommended by the manufacturer to replace the touch panel first and, if it would not solve the problem, then the control board has to be replaced too. Not the best recommendation but we have to follow it.

- The part number for the touch panel (aka a membrane switch) is AP3130765

- The part number for the control board AP3130764

MY KITHCENAID MICROWAVE MODEL KHMS155L TURNS ON BY ITSELF,OCCASIONALLY WILL GO TO F2.

Possible fault with the customer touch pad or the controls. Sometimes this is caused by insect secretion - cockroaches- which can make the controller processor board act with such erractic behaviour.
Try to remove the power, remove cover and remove the main controller board and control pad to be washed, cleaned and reset. take care of the strip connection and wires.

What does the F2 error code mean?

F2 means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

You can get it the Pros here by entering your full model number with suffix.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams to locate the part at that link.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

What does f2 mean?

F2 on a Kitchenaid / Whirlpool / Maytag microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

On some models, the keypad is available separately.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

On other models, the keypad
is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It all depends on the model number.

Model 72180883400

Hi,
F-9 error code indicates a defective control board, inverter or line voltage too high. f the microwave runs for about 7 seconds with a ticking sound..then stops and shows "F-9", it is the magnetron that has failed. The fact that the unit starts and runs with the TICKING SOUND means the control board is sending signal to inverter board and the inverter board is sending signal to magnetron. Magnetron is covered by full 5 year warranty, inverter board is only 3 years.
