If you haven't bricked this unit yet, or paid Syntax/Olevia's highway-robbery price to fix it (and pay STUPID prices to ship it to and fro), there is hope. Despite what Syntax and others say, it IS a replace-able part that can help get your TV to last at least another 12-24 months. During that time, you can save for a new, more reliable and reputable TV.

This is a well-known (at least those of us who had ours fail before yours) symptom of a bad backlight power inverter, which, for the LT30HV is a pain in the arse to get to (it's behind the main power distribution board and motherboard w/Pixelworks chip). If you can take apart a tower computer and install I/O cards, you can do this. These parts are made cheaply in China with 64 weld points that fail 100% of the time - and many other 'name' brand LCD TVs use this exact same CCFL backlight inverter. I'm working on posting the procedure somewhere on the net. The procedure shown in MoniServ's website is on a Kreisen set, which looks FAR more easily serviced than the LT30HV.
Good luck,

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the TV, and replugging it after 4 hours have passed. This technique reprograms the electronics, to a certain extent. If the picture does not return, then you have a more serious problem, that requires the attention of a TV repairman.

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the solutions

Change or move yellow one, of the cables, or component. if not then something you need from expert..
SOURCE: screen goes black but still sound
This is inverter or backlighting problem. Can you try switching it on and off quickly for a couple of times and tell me if these '2 seconds' get any longer'. If picture stays longer and longer before shutting down, one lamp needs replaced-if not, please replace inverter board
