Ipod is disabled, how do i restart it ?

The iPod Touch is a type of iPod that features a touch screen and can function as both a portable media player and as a pocket computer.

It is possible to password protect your iPod Touch so that you will have to enter a password every time you want to unlock the iPod Touch screen.

If you repeatedly enter the incorrect passcode, your iPod Touch will become disabled.
To unlock a disabled iPod Touch, you need to sync your iPod Touch device with iTunes on your computer.

Attach the iPod Touch data cable to the bottom of your iPod Touch device and attach the other end of the data cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Open iTunes on your computer and then select your iPod Touch device from the list of available devices on the left side of the iTouch window.

Click the "Restore" button.

If you have previously backed up your iPod Touch, you can choose to restore the device to the last back up or any saved backup.

If you have never backed up your iPod Touch, this process will restore your iPod Touch's factory settings.

Wait while iTunes syncs with your iPod Touch and restores the device.

iTunes will prompt you when this process is complete.

or
A hard reset restores your iPod Touch to its original factory settings.
This is useful when your iPod Touch is disabled and won't turn on or off, but all your data is erased.

Luckily, you can restore your data with iTunes after you've performed the reset.
Once you've performed the reset, your iPod is wiped clean and iTunes prompts you to restore the settings from your last sync.

Plug the iPod into your computer and wait at least 10 minutes.
This allows the battery to recharge in case it has drained.

This could fix your disabled iPod, if the problem was caused by a dead battery.
Click "OK" if your computer opens a "Connect to iTunes" alert box.

Depending on your version of iTunes, the message may indicate the iPod is in "recovery mode" and you need to restore the device.

ITunes opens and resets your iPod for you.
Unplug the iPod from your computer if you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" alert box.

Make sure the iPod is charged before you attempt the hard reset.
Press and hold both the On/Off/Wake button and the Home button on your iPod.

Keep the buttons pressed.
Wait for the Apple logo to appear, it may take 10 seconds or longer.

When you see it, release the On/Off/Wake button but keep the Home button pressed.
Release the Home button when you see a picture of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo.

Plug your iPod back into the computer.
The iTunes "recovery mode" message will appear.

Click "OK" to complete the reset.

Ipod restore problems

Restoring iPod to factory settings Learn how to restore iPod, iPod classic, iPod mini, and iPod nano to factory settings.

Background

It's important to understand the difference between updating and restoring. Updating simply installs the software that controls iPod and does not affect the songs and files stored on iPod's disk. Restoring erases the iPod's disk and restores iPod to its original factory condition.
Warning: Because restoring erases all the songs and files on iPod, back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library. If you use the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, see this document for more information.
Note: See this article if you need to restore an iPod shuffle.

How to restore iPod

  1. Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
  3. Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
  4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
  6. Click Restore.
  7. If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator's name and password.
  8. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
    • Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
    • Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
  9. During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
  10. After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

My ipod is disabled and says connect to itunes but it also says itunes could not... so what do i do?

Step 1:
Apple's iPod Touch comes with a screen lock feature that allows you to set a four-digit security code to prevent others from using your iPod. Every time the iPod locks, you must enter this code to unlock the screen and access the user interface. Entering the wrong code too many times, or simply forgetting your security code, can cause you to be completely locked out. When this happens, you can quickly unlock your iPod Touch.

Connect your iPod Touch to the computer you usually sync it with. When you disconnect your iPod, it should now be unlocked. If Step 1 does not work, you have to restore your iPod Touch. Be advised that restoring your iPod Touch returns it to the original factory settings. This means that all your songs and files will be deleted and lost. You can resync your files to your iPod from iTunes once you have finished restoration. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes before proceeding. In the left navigation panel in iTunes, select your iPod under the "Devices" section. Click the "Summary" tab and select "Restore." When iTunes prompts you about backing up your data, click "Back Up." In the following window, click "Restore." After the restore process completes, you will see the Apple logo on the screen of your iPod. Leave your iPod connected to your computer until it shows up again on the iTunes navigation panel. Your iPod touch is now unlocked. In iTunes you will be able to setup your iPod. Select the backup you made in the drop-down menu to restore your data files. Unfortunately, you are going to have to restore your iPod, but this is not an "all is lost scenario. As long as you have already previously backed up your iPod via a previous sync, you should be ok.
To restore your iPod is simple:
* Be sure you restore your iPod on the same computer or notebook that your previous iPod backup files or stored.

* Now, make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes.
• Be sure your iPod is correctly connected to computer or notebook .

• Finally, in the left column under Devices, click on your iPod, then click on Restore in the Summary tab.

* Allow the process to complete and your iPod will be restore to its original factory default settings.

* Now simply sync your iPod with iTunes and this is where your last sync now comes into play.

When you sync after the recovery, iTunes will look for your iPod's previous backup and per your OK, will restore your most recent backup to your iPod.
