You can't download Microsoft office for free - you have to pay for it. A great alternative is "open office". It's fully compatible with all office applications.

    Free to me would mean a full version of a program - not something that packs it in after 60 days (or whatever the trial version lasts for) leaving you with a bunch of documents/files you can't do anything with.

    I know there are places you can download Office for free - but I am sure that they would not be welcome in this forum....

    I think it's kind of misleading to say that a trial version is "free" software. I guess technically it is - until it isn't.

Here's a link from where you can buy and download MS Office 2010. Here is a link to the trial version. After download just run the installer to install MS Office suite, and follow the steps in the installer.

You can either use the Open Office (here is the link) that is free and fully compatible with the whole Microsoft Office suite (including Word), or use the freeware Microsoft Word Viewer (here is the link for you to download) but keep in mind that this one can only view, print and copy; that's why it is called "word viewer". I definitely suggest you the first solution.

If the version of MS Office you have has expired, it is a trial version, as per the terms of use here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/default.aspx.
Contact Microsoft and purchase a license, and they will provide a product key to reactivate the program, or uninstall the program.
Requesting help to pirate software on a forum such as this is not generally considered a good idea. It leaves you, the person who responds with product key, and the site owners, open to prosecution.
