I have a Sanborn Black Max 22 gal. compressor Mod#B109BLR300-22SWC. The motor is a Magnetic/Century 3 H.P. 115v Model 8-165730-20 Ser# BF-532 15A-7.5 RPM 3450. It is missing the run and start capacitors. I have no idea as to what the motor capacitors part numbers are or their specs are so I can order the parts.

Sanborn/Coleman was bought out by MAT Solutions. A website I found lists Sanborn/Coleman compressors and parts but it does not show your model number. It does say, however, to email them with your model number and they will be able to find your parts for you. I have included the link for you here: http://www.mastertoolrepair.com/colemansanborn-portable-parts-freedirect-drive-electric-c-271_35_172_178.html

The starting capacitor on the motor I am working on (same as yours) looks to be an AerovoxM, part number 157695-51. Label on capacitor says it's 509 - 708 MFD and rated at 110VAC.

The running capacitor was missing. The telephone number for MagneTek Century Electric in St. Louis is no longer in service. However, I contacted MAT Industries, LLC (they absorbed Sanborn). They gave me the following information:

The running capacitor is P/N 166-0052. It's 20 MFD and rated at 370 VAC. Price: $54.12

MAT Industries tel. number is: 1-888-895-4549

Century motor wiring diagram for 8-152863-01 motor

You can\'t run it on 220, but if you take only one of the 220 black wires and attach it to the black on the compressor you are feeding it 110. The problem will be that you have no neutral wire so you\'d have to use the ground of the 220 lead (green) as the neutral on the compressor (white). It\'ll run fine but it\'s not the right way and it can be a hazard. The white wire is neutral which is basically a ground wire from the electric company, the green is the ground wire in your building and it\'s there for safety so using it to power things is dangerous and probably illegal. I\'ve done it in a pinch, but wouldn\'t do it if at all avoidable. You may be able to get a transformer but you\'re probably better off running a 110 circuit or getting a 220 compressor.
