Can I use a headset for voice comm. on the VX-5000?
I have recently installed a VX-5000 to allow participation in an on-line class. For tests in this class I am required to use a headset for voice chat. The VX-5000 default for voice comm. is the built-in camera microphone and my PC speakers. I have two questions: 1. Is there a way to use my headset for voice chat with this camera and NOT the built-in mic and my PC speakers? 2. It seems the VX-5000 software has a settings menu for video and sound that might help me with this, but I can't access it. I open the LifeCam dashboard and go to "LifeCam Settings". The button labeled "Audio/Video Settings" is greyed-out and not click-able. Why is this?

Try one or more steps to reduce echo:
1. In Device Settings, under Mircophone test make sure that 'Auto
Adjust Audio' is checked. It automatically sets the audio and reduces
echo.
2. Right click in the class window to open up the context menu. Click
Settings in the menu. Macromedia Flash Player Settings window opens up.
Click on microphone icon and check 'Reduce Echo' option.
3. Uncheck boost in microphone device settings.
4. Use a headset and not desktop speakers.
If a class participant (may be an attendee or a presenter) is
experiencing echo then all other class participants are required to
make settings at their ends. Preferably, the presenter may transfer
control to the attendees one by one and identify the system generating
echo.

Hi, First I would suggest you get a Microsoft Life Cam VX-3000 as it will install the easiest and has a mic built in. Then I would suggest you and your family download SKYPE as it is FREE to talk on using the computer. It allows oyou to connect with several family members. Only have to pay if you telephone anyone from the computer using Skype. So download SKYPE from this site: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/beta/ and follow these instruction to setup your voice/video.

After you install Skype and have it operational
with you ID. Go to "TOOLS", click on "OPTIONS," Then go to
"Audio Settings" and click on it. Make sure both the Microphone and
Speaker's are correctly chosen.Then
"make a free test call." Wait till the voice tells you to
record. Then when finished talking wait for the test persons voice to
insure your audio transmission is working. Then go back to options and
test your video settings. Click on Video Settings and proceed to set up
you video camera. Also, you can Visit this site for additional
information to setup video.

Hope this helps. Bud
Recently on an HP desktop computer I found setting the device
in the Sounds and Audio Device Control panel Voice Tab (and possibly
Audio Tab) to reduce the issues with the device ceasing to work.
Setting the device from the Sound Icon in the System tray recently only
a very temporary fix where the settings reverted to the Sounds and
Audio Device Control panel settings in at most minutes. This is at best an I
hope it helps solution as I do not know your specific hardware and
software configuration we cannot test a solution.
