On mine, nothing "clamps down". There are 3 positions in the plastic rack into which you can insert the wire rest - "F", "H", and "A". God knows what they mean (I think the one rack is intended to be used in various dryers, of different depths), but if I use the rearmost position = "A", the back end of the wire rest rests on the non-moving rear of the drum, and the front of the rack rests on the lint screen holder. Seems to work, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired.

I have the 3 positions too. When I put it in F...it's too short, H doesn't have a hole and A is too long. I am so confused.

I just tried mine again and had to be re-trained. The key is to assemble the wire frame onto the plastic rack and then put the whole mess into the dryer. It doesn't look like it's going to work, but it does.

I added some pictures to my original post which may help (or not). They didn't get inserted in the right order, but here's what they are:

  • Michael Armstrong Jul 16, 2014

1- Rank and frame assembled; 2- Rack and frame; 3- Frame being placed into hole(s) in rack; 4- Frame folded down, but not locked into rack; 5- Frame and rack snapped together; 6- Going into dryer; 7- Frame resting on back of drum, rack resting on lint filter.

The dryer rack is shipped in place in your dryer. Remove and
discard any packing material before use.

Use the TUMBLE FREE Heated Dryer Rack for items that you
do not want to tumble dry, such as sweaters. When you use the
heated dryer rack, the heated air inside the dryer flows in a
concentrated pattern to allow efficient and uniform drying.
Use Timed Dry to select the desired time.

NOTE: Do not use Auto Cycles with the dryer rack.

To use the heated dryer rack:

Do not remove the lint screen.

1. Open dryer door.

2. Place dryer rack over the bottom of the dryer door opening.
Rest the back wire on the dryer back ledge. Push down on
the frame front to secure over lint screen.

3. Place wet items on top of the rack. Allow space around items
for air to circulate. The rack does not move, but the drum will
rotate. Make sure items do not hang over the edges or
between rack grille.

4. Close the door.

5. Select TIMED DRY and MORE TIME or LESS TIME. Reset
time as needed to complete drying. Refer to the following
table.

6. Select the desired temperature setting to match the fabrics in
your load by pressing TEMPERATURE. Items containing
foam, rubber, or plastic must be dried on a clothesline or by
using the Air Dry temperature setting. Refer to the following
table.

7. Start the dryer.

NOTE: You must remove rack for normal tumbling. To remove the
dryer rack, lift it straight up and out of the dryer.
NOTE: Check the lint screen and remove any lint accumulated
from items dried on the rack.

Suggested Items for Rack Temperature Suggested
Drying Setting Time*
(Minutes)
Washable wool items (block Low 20
to shape and lay flat on
rack)
Stuffed toys (cotton or Low 20
polyester fiber filling)

Galoshes (rubber) Air Dry 20
Foam rubber pillows Air Dry 50

*Reset time as needed to complete drying.

The wire legs are adjustable. Flip the rack up side down and squeeze the wire legs towards each other then swivel them to remove them. Adjust the legs to "A" position (There are 4 positions-mine fit the "A" position) so that the horizontal wire leg fits across the back ledge if the dryer.

Good luck!

Rest the back wire on the dryer back ledge.

〈Push down on the frame front

How to install dryer rack in kenmore HE3 dryer

Open your Kenmore HE3 dryer door. Look for the ledge on the inside rear of the dryer wall.

Insert the rear wire leg of the dryer rack into the drum, resting the wire leg on top of the ledge. The front frame should rest over the dryer lint screen.

Push down on the top of the front frame of the dryer rack to secure it over the dryer lint screen frame. Close the dryer door once you load your items on the rack.

Kenmore Elite HE4 dryer- can I change the plug from the present 4 pronged utility plug to a standard 3 prong plug and still work safely?

NO, You will need to get an electrician to install a NEMA 14-30R outlet for your dryer, the electrician will know what you need, in anycase a 240V 30amp outlet is needed if you dont already have one. DONT replace the plug.

Dryer rack installation

I had the same problem: they sent me the rack, but no instructions.
But if you look in the product manual for your dryer, there should be a section on how to use the rack. For the Cabrio, which is what I have, it's on page 21.
If you don't have the manual anymore, you can get them online at Whirlpool's web site. Just plug in your model number in the search box, and there it will be.
