Whirlpool Ultimate Care 2 only works if I hold the Timer Knob

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care ll super capcity Imperial gas dryer will only work if I hold the Timer Knob, if I let go of it, it shuts off. And it will only work in the heat mode, not the air fluff or energy preferred mode.

It also would not hurt to try and blow out the timer assembly with compressed air...I was having trouble with mine and i had pulled out the timer. blew it out with compressed air, and re-installed and it worked again. If not then you will need to replace the timer like the other person stated.

Whirlpool ultimate care ii dryer timer

Sounds like the knob is not on correctly, or is not the correct knob, or the plate with the numbers on it has moved. When it turns off naturally, does that line up with 'off'?

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

The timer cam is not aligning the internal switches. Replacing it is the only fix.

Whirlpool ultimate care ll washer

on the back of the timer is a black plastic tab, you have to pull out on this tab in order to remove the knob. in other words you have to take apart the control panel to get to the timer just to take off the knob. :I
