this is not a Windows issue the is a IP issue. You will need to see if you have an IP Internet Protocol ) address for the connection to be successful. You will have to do a ipconfig /all to see if you have media connection. this is done by logging in to the router modem via a browser window ( internet Explorer FireFox) using the IP address 192.168.0.1 this will bring you to the router GUI (graphical user interface) if you haven't entered a password just type "admin' the 1st field then enter no password ne needed. there is a release/renew button there click and this will release a new IP address for you to connect with. You will also need to configure your browser for the internet 1. for Windows XP here is the setup : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/default.mspx 2. For Windows 7 here is the setup instructions: getting online and networking http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/networking-e-mail-getting-online

Once in there find your wireless setting and turn it off.
I personally do not have a netopia router but these are the usual steps, if you have any problems comment back and i will be glad to help.
Here is the netopia website support page. Select the unit you have and then select the type of information or download you need.
First of all, how can you blame your four year old for you loosing the CD (LOL). Next question: Why are you using two routers in the same location? You should be able to connect both machines to the same router.
I would suggest to "download the drivers" but the website of Netopia doesn't mention drivers. And I'm guessing that your driver disk won't have the Vista drivers either.
go to windows update after you have installed netopia usb adapter and do custom scan and it will bring up ralink 2500 usb driver install that and it will work netopia usb adapter i think it has ralink chip but it works with mine
did you reset or restart if reset all the info has to be re inputted also if you have isp like bellsouth or at&t they will change pass if the router resets i know this from past troubles with mine but after i stopped resetting and just restarted i was fine lol
