The direction of the boat symbol is depending on the compass course from the autopilot. You will see that your GPS course (COG) and magnetig heading on the autopilot differs. Solution is to calibrate autopilot compass. Will advice you to not use course up, stick to north up or heading up.

Ais and 1920c Furuno chart plotter

n the system setup, under “UNITS” I set BEARING to “MAG” (magnetic). This will cause the unit to display course / bearing information in relation to the Magnetic North and match magnetic compass readings. It is not the same as True North! One has to be careful with this setting. There are a number of areas where the earth's magnetic field is locally disturbed, sometimes very significantly. Your GPS may not account for it. - again, under “UNITS” I set “METRIC”.

Furuno VX2 Radar heading alignment

Please take the time to rate this tip!
This tip applies to all VX2 radars from Furuno. Models Include 1724c, 1734c, 1824c, 1834c, 1934c, 1944c, 1954c, 1964c, 1724cnt, 17234cnt, 1824cnt, 1834cnt, 1934cnt, 1944cnt, 1954cnt, 1964cnt, and 19XXBB series black box radar processors. When the picture is "crooked", "rotated" or "needs re aiming" you need to do the radar heading alignment. In order to do the radar heading aligment, you must access the installation menus, available only in installation setup mode.
Press and hold "MENU" during power on.Continue holding menu during start up, at least until the boat appears.
Choose , "Installation Mode", Choose "Menu", "System Configuration", "Installation Set Up" "Radar Set Up".

Here is where people get lost! Choose "Next Page", Choose "Heading Alignment". You will be prompted to place the dotted line on a target "dead ahead". Follow instructions and then, do not forget to press "SET". Press Return Return Return or Menu to exit and resume normal operation.
Note that the installation menus disappear if they are not accessed for five minutes!.
Please take the time to rate this tip.

That is all there is to it.
Please "Optimize Radar Video" in same menu (Radar Set Up).

Furuno 1942Mk2 Problem

it cannot determine a heading, have you also damaged an internal antenna or positioning / gps device inside it? It is unsure which direction it is pointing in but uses triangulation to determine this.

That requires either an electronic compass unit, or gps to achieve correct heading and hence correct orientation of the radar image

RAYMARINE

With the charts page up, start by hitting the find ship softkey at the bottom of the screen. If that find the boat on the chart all is good.If not you need to check you have a GPS fix. Go to GPS screen and see you are seeing satalites.
If all is good when you hit find ship and the boat disappears again from chart while underway you will need to go into the chart setup menu and see if the screen amplifier is turned off. If off turn on.This is first place to start. Hope that helps

Orientation

It is not likely that there is a software error that could cause that problem so I'm going to cover some basic information first. Forgive me if I'm covering stuff you already know. There are 3 chart orientation modes, North Up, Heads Up, and Course Up. North Up you already know! In Heads Up mode, the chart will only orient heads up when the boat is moving. Unless you have an electronic compass interfaced to your GPS it has no way of knowing which way you are facing. Once you start to move, it compares your new position to the old position to determine which way is heads up. If you are not moving, the map defaults to North Up even if you are in heads up mode. Course Up mode is commonly mistaken for Heads Up. In Course Up mode, the GPS orients the top of the screen toward a waypoint that you have told the GPS to go to. If no waypoint is selected, the GPS will default to North Up orientation. So I guess what I'm saying is, make sure the boat is moving, and make sure you're not in course up mode (unless you want to be).

In the unlikely event that there is a software error causing this problem, it can easily be fixed by getting an update from Standard Horizon. You can either get them to send you an update chip, or download it online and copy it to a blank C Map card. When you turn the GPS there will be a message on the opening screen that identifies you software version. Get that information before you call Standard.
