Hello! I've been using my Compaq Presario (M2223AP) Laptop for 2 years now, then all of a sudden I saw 2 vertical lines on the screen. 1 line is a clear red line (but not so thick & dark) located about 1/3 from the left of the screen while the other is a very faint (thin, almost transparent) line located about 1/5 from the right of the screen. I think it might be a monitor problem. I'm not very good in fixing computers so I have not done anything about it yet. I'd appreciate your help very much. Thanks! Thin vertical lines on Toshiba Satellite (no more than 2) for 4 months have come and gone in different locations - left half of screen- now a third is fluctuating and hasn't decided to become permanent yet - right in the center. Would really like to know cause. Have warranty but will have to buy new computer before having fixed as it is used every day.
Sorry, but I find these sites difficult to figure out - I'm not a chat room person. I just wanted to thank dg9dotorg for the comments and whenever I finally find out the cause and get it repaired next year, I will advise what caused it. edierosa
The LCD would start to fail eventually, there is a fix you can try which has worked for some, but it solely depends if you want to try it out, it might revive your LCD...

Follow up. The cause to this is that the LCD liquids start to fail due age and regular use. Some remedy this problem by rubbing lightly the area where you see the vertical streaks, sometimes the flex cable that connects the lcd to the mother board gets ruined with age as well also resulting to the same bands of lines... The software I suggested can actually revive the pixels if the problem is just the liquid failing, if its a hardware issue like the flex cable, then theres nothing to do but back-up and replace...
Well you can go to your nearest repair center and have the flex cables changed, that should solve the streaks, it can't be solved either by software or manual rubbing... some call the flex cable ribbon wires... Although you used the unit for just 2 years, you still don't know the actual shelf life of the computer before you purchased it...
It's not mainly about how you used it, but the component life of the device... Parts like lcds have expiration life, and so does other wirings, I prefer connecting your computer to an external LCD so you can continue to use it ...

I disagree. The computer started with the lines at 1.5 years old. Also, though I use it every day, it could be termed "hardly used" (in terms of hours per day). The lid is closed just once a day and it has never left the house.
