Walls of freezer are hot to touch

My freezer is only one year old. The outside side walls are hot to the touch, when I pull it out from the wall the compressor is hot to touch, I do not hear a rush of air when opening and ice is accumulating on the inside walls. We unplugged for about an hour, cleaned out the freezer and plugged back in. We also placed a fan behind the freezer to try and cool it down. What can we do?

Freezer is working overtime . these symptoms generally indicate excessive outside air coming into freezer. make sure doorgasket is completely sealed all the way around door.

My frezer is getting hot on the sides-why?

Its normal. The manufacturers got smart and put the condenser in the outside freezer walls. A lot of home refrigerators also have the same hot walls. Hope this helps good luck.

Why is my Electrolux freezer outside walls hot

The condensing coils are embedded in the walls of the freezer. The freezer uses the wall as a heat sink. This allows the freezer to dissipate the heat that has been pulled from inside the freezer to the area outside of the freezer.

My Kenmore 9 upright freezer feels warm on the outside, what could be the cause. I have defrosted and cleaned it already and seems to work fine. however i am concerned with the outside temperature. Please...

Hi,

This is normal. The condenser coils on freezers are typically located in the walls.

The refrigerator in your kitchen has condenser coils that are hot either under the frig or on the back. Freezers do not need as much heat transfer on the coils with the air so they put them in the walls, it is called a warm wall condenser. It may even feel hot to the touch if you happen to feel it near the end of a cooling cycle. It will be the warmest close to the compressor and cool off at it makes it around the cabinet down to the other side.

New freezer from Sears, seems to be working okay, but the top and sides are very hot to the touch. I wouldn't think this is normal operation.

I don't know what brand or model of freezer you have but all of them have inside their walls a pipe with hot gas (freon under pressure from the compresor) or a heater to keep the outside free of moisture ,but if it's very hot it could be that the coil is dirty or something is blocking the air vent.

I have an upright Frigidaire freezer. The outsides (left and right) are hot to the touch. Is it a problem?

No. Instead of exposed coils on the back side, many (most) freezers place the condenser coils near the outer wall of the freezer to disipate the waste heat removed from inside the freezer. It will not be as noticable when the freezer is not running, and is completely normal.

Freezer outside walls are very hot. Not maintaining temp

Hi, The walls are getting hot because that is where the condesor coils are. The condensor coils are where the heat is disperst that is trap as the coolant pumps through the evaporator coils inside. The fact that it is holding 0 degrees is a good sign. Is this freezer in a garage?
Check the door seals to make sure no heat is getting into the freezer other then when the door is opened.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Freezer

The condenser or high side is built into the side walls on these modern freezers and refrigerators in many cases. It is normal for the outside walls to be hot when the unit is working. Frost on the inside of the sealed packets of food is from the moisture content of the food. Running the temperature setting to cold will accelerate the moisture freezing to the inside of the food packets. This also is a normal condition.

Exterior side walls VERY hot

Hi wjjlaw,
ngafm at your service,

Is the hot side th open side or against the wall or cabinet side?

Have you touched this side before in he two years you have this appliance? Or is it that you just noticed it?

And if you can keep your hand on that spot for a long time it is not so hot only warm? If it is not burning your had it is probably just the characteristic of that fridge!
Check if the freezer part is full to the top and packed full.
Freezers can not be so full that you cover the cold air vents usually found in th rear of the freezer.

My advice is only a trained tech can remedy this problem, this time!
If I were there I'm sure I could nail it down!

You need hands on service!
Bless You ,
ngafm,
Please give me a good rating before you sign off.
Thank you.

My freezer is hot!

It is normal for the freezer or fridge walls to be hot sometimes, some important points are to make sure that there is enough ventillation around the fridge/freezer, especcially the back, so that air can circulate around it freely. Also maybe just check that there hasn't been anything fallen down the back blocking the vent, and that there isn't a dust collection or anything. Otherwise as far as I know this is normal.
