If it's a two wire jack, the tip contact is signal, the sleeve contact is common ground (or minus).

If there is a coaxial wire, the center wire is signal and goes to the tip contact, the braided shield is ground and goes to sleeve contact.

If there are two ordinary wires, you need to measure with an ohmmeter / continuity tester which one is connected to the common ground (minus) - that will be the sleeve and the other wire will be the tip.

electronics can be effected by oxidation of the contacts the input jack the volume and tone control pots must be cleaned and lubricated try a cleaner from radio shack this may help if not input jack may be severely worn or the microphone may be in need of repairs to it's plug or cord there could be a shredded or broken wire connection

if not working, you have to open the device and find out where it is not connecting (broken solder joint? bent or worn out contacts? wire off?) and repair. or if beyond repair, order a new part.

Yamaha CP 300 broken headphone jack
Some keyboards use the amp output sockets for headphone use.
You might need some adapters for your headphones.
If it fell in, you would see an empty hole. This would be unlikely because it is held on by two screws. If all fails, buy an amp with a headphone jack input. Plug the keyboard into the amp and use the amps jack.

Input jack fell inside
Yes, the jack MAY actually be broken. It will need to be serviced. Run cables through the handle to avoid plugs from being yanked sideways and breaking the jacks.

I just bought a used valveking 100 half stack and the 1st channel does not work, second channel works but seems to have a loose input jack as connection is intermittent and affected by wiggling the input...
Same thing... they probably broke both jacks. Sometimes the guts of the jack is broken and it doesn't appear to be broken but is broken internally. You may find broken solder on the pins to these jacks as well.

Note that the two input jacks have a different gain.

I get no sound at all when I plug in to the input and its not my lead or guitar, how can I fix the amp?
This is probably not a DIY repair. You best take it to a repair shop. Likely the power amp has failed or other common problems are broken connectors/jacks, broken volume pots, and finally circuit board cracks.

Yamaha P80 broken DC input jack
Probably the jack is still OK but broken from the circuit board.

If it is OK, one needs to use a bit of epoxy to hold it in the correct place and solder jumper wires to replace the EXPECTED broken circuit board traces.

The jacks are readily available, often at Radio Shack or for certain at Digikey.com should the connector be mechanically damaged rather than just seperated from the circuit board.

I tripped over my amp chord while it was in, and now my amp wont make any sound at all. any suggestions?
First, try a different cable. Often in this kind of accident, the connection is broken between the wires in the cable and the plug on the end of the cable. (The cable can often be repaired by soldering the wires back onto the plug.)

If that doesn't help, it's possible the input jack on your amp was damaged. It is a relatively simple job for an amp technician to repair or replace an input jack if this is the problem. Expect about 1 hour of labor and about $10 in parts.

Input wires broken loose, not sure where the go to
The center pin is your tip..which should have a wire going from 1/4" jack to the XLR jack. Pin 1 is earth ground...should be coming from 1/4" jack sleeve. Pin 3 would come from the 1/4" jack ring.
