Toro riding lawn mower. 12 h/p is hard to start

Toro riding lawn mower. 12 h/p
Briggs and Straton
Engine Model #281707
Type # 0175 01
Code # 87112511

I have a lawn mower engine that is hard to start. Note that after it has warmed up the engine runs fine.
It will restart again with no problem if the engine is still warm.
To get it started it has to jumped with a car battery and even then I have crank and crank and often will need to let it sit for a half hour and try again.
Carburetor has been cleaned.
This has been going on for 2 years.
We are thinking the engine valves may be worn. Can you give me possible ideas?
Thanks
Robin

Hi there, It is most likely that the choke isn't closing fully. The throttle cable will need to be adjusted to cure this. The cable is clamped where it joins the engine. Simply slacken the bolt and move the outer cable out a bit. When you operate the throttle control you should see the choke start to operate near the start position. Make sure that the choke control rod operates to its fullest extent when the control is fully on the start position.

I have a briggs and stratton motor off a ride on. 12 Hp I/C Quiet model 281707 type 0148-01 with no spark. I've cleaned the flywheel, the coil and bought a new plug. Any thoughts?

Make sure that there is .010-.012 clearance between the flywheel and the coil . As this is a engine that has electronic ignition you do not have to worry about points and condenser. Also check to make sure that the ground wire from the ignition switch to the coil is not shorted out on the frame anywhere. And make sure

Need over size exhaust seat for 11hp model253417

Go to the Briggs & Stratton web site. Put in the model, type, and code numbers off your engine. You can download the IPL (illustrated parts list), which will give you the part number of the seat - IF available. You can then order the part, but it will be a machine shop job to fit it.

No spark at plug

Hi, I can see you posted this in April, so you may have sorted it by now!..? Is your problem that it will not start? If so and you have checked that the air filture and spark plug are OK, then you should make sure that all four lights are on, on the dash. Also you need to make sue that the black flap at the back directly behind the seat is pressed down properly. If it is up slightly it will stop it from starting as it is a safety feature. It has some sort of trip swith on it. I hope this has been helpful.
