I believe that this particular model is supposed to have the bowl mix separately. I have removed the black piece from the bottom of the larger bowl in order to allow manual spinning. If I am able to figure out how to fix the bowl spinner I will make another post.
Hi MITCH, Happy New Year!Somebody at Sunbeam must have been asleep when the mixer passed by on the production line...duh?I hate when that happens.The good news is that you can download a PDF Users Manual from the Sunbeam website. Just click on this link Heritage Series 2353 Mixmaster and look for your M-I-L’s model to about ½-way down the page.Open the file and save it to your PC. I’m not very keen with the way Sunbeam lays out their User’s Manuals. You’ll need to do some editing and repaginating to get it into a format that your M-I-L- can use, but at least you’ll have it.You can send it to her electronically or print just the English pages and mail; your choice. Try placing some "braces" rubber bands around the shafts of the beaters. This should tighten the hold of the shaft with the mixer and keep them more straight.

The speed control on the back is simply a variable resistance potentiometer, the same thing that controls the volume on older amplifiers. The output current to the motor is supplied by the printed circuit board in the bottom of the unit. This allows gradual increases in speed to avoid over-torquing the motor on speedup. Even the poshy-posh-posh mixers do this.
At least it still works. The most common problem is the cheap plastic drive gears that strip out with a mild cookie dough, this jams the beaters together and requires burial-at-dumpster.
