Hey guys, a variation on the same theme. Got Vista, Sony Walkman installed fine first time but subsequently am getting an error message saying MTP not found. Have tried the Control Panle/System Properties route, have tried manually searching for the device, have tried uninstalling and re-installing, have also tried to up-date the driver software via the internet and manually. In a word have done it all - including studying all possible manuals. No effect! To make it more fun my other mp3 players work fine and this Walkman works fine on other Vistas and XPs. In my desperatio nhave also tried to plug in ANOTHER mp3 player and the Walkman and tried to chose the deice driver software from the other mp3 player - still nothing? Spoken to Sony and Microsoft about 7 times - they do not have a clue - just blame each other. Any ideas will be welcome?

These aren't really solutions so much as alternate methods of using the device. A true solution would actually fix the problem and allow the MTP device to be used as it was supposed to be. Sure, I can install Storage Device drivers but without it being recognised as an MTP device I cannot use the bundled software etc.
I'm still trying to find a way to fix the problem rather than working around it.

If you have a problem about MTP Device and wont be able to show in your "My Computer", here are tips that may help you fixed your problem:

*First- Uninstall the MTP Device Driver in your system.(Right click My Computer then manage, then click Device manager at the left part, then after that, find MTP Device in your right part, then click and Right click the name of your MTP Device then uninstall.)
*Second- Reconnect the device and then after a pop-up show which says, New hardware found,
click install the driver in a specific location, then choose the bottom option and then choose
Storage Device.
*Lastly- Turn On your Device and search it in My Computer.

that's all, and i hope i do a little help to you!

Okay when you plug in your walkmen it will give you an option saying install automatically (which says is recommended). But chose the second option saying I will chose location. Then choose the second option which lets you choose the connection type. Choose USB Mass Storage and voilla you gotta bro!!

(For WinXP SP2/SP3..not sure about Vista)

Simple when the pop up of the installation window comes up..

just say search for drivers manually..
then go ahead and choose the bottom options on windows..
and its gonna config the device to be a mass storage device..
then you just drag and drop or use WMP..

i know its not a complete explaination but just mess around with it works! :) cheers took me 2 hours and it was that easy haha!

What driver do i use for my sony mp4 player... model number nwz-s616f.. please help me

Hi,
It is not required to install any Driver for connecting the Walkman Player to the Computer. The Driver for recognizing the Walkman Player as a MTP Device is already installed in the Computer. You can install the supplied Windows Media Player 11 Software for transferring the files to the Player. You can either Drag and Drop the files using the Windows Explorer to the MUSIC Folder which appears as a Removable Drive or can use the Windows Media Player 11 for transferring. If the Player is not recognized by the Computer, try connecting to different USB ports and try re-installing the USB Driver from the Device Manager.
Thank you for using FixYa!

I installed my sony NWZ as MTP device, but now i want to go back to simpler UMS (standard usb connection) ive tried removing the mtp drivers from device manager, but it always just auto installs... Can...

Since there's no easy option in the Walkman's settings to switch back and forth between MTP and UMS, there's a little trick to un-do the MTP drivers so that the unit becomes a straight USB Mass Storage drag/drop unit. You have to go into Device Manager (Windows XP), find the Walkman in the Portable Devices group, right click, then select Update Driver. Then select "No, not this time", then Next. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then Next. Select "Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install", then Next. (Be sure to check the box beside Show Compatible Hardware) Highlight USB Mass Storage Device, then Next. (To revert back to MTP, just do the same thing but choose MTP instead of USB Mass Storage Device.) Personally, I'd never go back to the MTP mode. Having the Walkman seen by the computer as just another USB mass storage device allows the drag/drop transfers to go much faster

My sony nwz-S616F doesnt transfer songs from pc

Sony NWZ-S616F
Dear holders, I have it and solved all problems which are in discussion. Just read all INFERNAL help, it works! By XP, go to Start-Control Panels-Administrative tools-Computer Management-Device manager (small icon of computer on your left hand side) tab should have “Walkman” or MTP device. Right click on it and go to properties, now before doing anything it should say “Location — —— Location 0 (Walkman)” if not try unplugging the walkman and see if the MTP device you’re looking at is removed from the list, just to make sure it’s the right device we’re looking for.If you’ve confirmed it’s the Walkman, click on the “Driver tab” and click on “Update Driver…”. Then click on the “Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)” option and click “Next”. Now select the “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install.” and click next. It should now bring up 2 driver choices, one being “MTP Device” and the other “USB Mass Storage Device”. Select the USB option and select next, it will then install your walkman as a USB storage device and after that’s done. It should be a matter of unplugging and plugging the Walkman back in and it should show up on your storage options in “My Computer””. Holla for original uploader Inferno!!!
