Call the cable company and ask them what is going on. They can often recharge your system remotely.

Our cable company has upgraded to digital channels. This tv has the right equipment in it and should find the digital channels but doesn't. When I first did a digital channel search it grouped channels...

the cable company switched to digital just like everyone else, but that should not effect your viewing, they convert the channels back to basic cable so you can see the without having to do anything. If you want to watch "over the air" digital tv you need an outside antenna and television that can recieve digital signals, or put a digital convertor box on your set, but none of this makes any sense if you have cable because you are already getting the same channels over the cable.

I know this tv has digital capabilities, so i don't need to get the digital box, what do i need to watch my local channels? i have directv but does not include local channels (ie. fox, abc, nbc).

Hello

To tune the local channels do the following.

1 Press the MENU key on the remote control to
display the Main menu.

2 Use the CURSOR "UP" or "Down"
keys to highlight
Manual Channel Search. Press ENTER.

3 Use the CURSOR "Up" or "Down"
keys to select Cable,
Air (Antenna), or Digital Add-On.

After the search is complete, the HDTV will exit the
menu system and return to normal TV viewing.

IMPORTANT FACT: This HDTV maintains only one database

of digital channels. Therefore, when you search for

cable channels, the database of antenna digital channels

will be deleted. You will only be able to receive those
ClearQAM channels your cable company provides.

NOTE:"Not available" will appear on the screen

when an option is unavailable.

People faces and a lot of other items on the screen are not natural looking, kind of like a manaquin. Stripes are distorted. It is brand new and I was wondering if the problem is the tv or something else....

On this television you would need to remove the Comcast digital cable box. This tv does not need it. Then you will press the menu button and choose either the channel or the setup category. You will then need to locate the auto ch memory or ch setup subcategory. Then you will select it by pressing enter after scroling down to it. Next you will scroll down to automatic search or ch search and press enter. Select search start for just digital channels and press enter. It may direct you to select yes and then enter. After the television is done searching the 135 channels it will come back to channel 2.1 or the lowest channel you receive. You can then go through your channels with the ch button on your Sharp remote control. The picture can further be adjusted with the av mode button on your remote if you press it repeatedly if you remote control has one.

Tested and verified solution:
  1. Set Tuner Mode to "antenna".
  2. Run a channel scan. Should get zero channels found.
  3. Set Tuner Mode to "cable".
  4. Run another channel scan.
  5. Celebrate!

How do I set my PT-44LCX65 up to receive broadcast HDTV signals.

You should use the auto-program function in the customer menu. It will prompt you to select which antenna input you wish to program and then ask if you are on cable or receiving signals via "air" or "broadcast" mode. Allow the TV to load all the channels. You may notice that the auto program mode may move along quickly during the addition of analog channels and that during the scanning of the digital channels that it may look like nothing is happening. Patience is a virtue here. Wait until it has completely scanned both analog and digital bands and you will recieve both versions of the station's signal. If, for example, you have a local channel 5, the digital version will be 5-1, and so on.

Good luck!

Bad picture

I had the same problem re digital cable. Turn tv off after connecting to cable TV cables, then back on - use your cable tv remote control and choose a channel. This might work for you as it did for me.
