HP LaserJet M1005 MFP - Scanner Errors 6 and 12 Solution ISSUE: The scan head may not be in the correct starting position.
Updated firmware is available to resolve the issue.
SOLUTION: Upgrade to newer firmware (version20120831 or newer) available on hp.com Support & Drivers.
Select Drivers & Software, enter the product name/number, select operating system and locate the firmware download.

Replace Scan head mechanism(while scanning or copying there is a part called scan head moves right to left with light fails to move due to mechanism breakage). For reaching this unit you need to remove flat bed glass. Pl see the snap shot for easy identification:SCAN HEAD:

Hp 1005 Scanner error 20 please suggest the problem

Turn off the power by using the power switch, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power and wait for the device to initialize.
If a surge protector is being used, remove it. Plug the device directly into the wall socket.
Use thepower switch to turn the device on.
