SOURCE: homelite hedge trimmer , motor runs but blades do

Had the same problem: when I turn on the trimmer, the motor would hum but the blades won't move.
What I did:
1. Sprayed a ton of wd40 between the blades
2. Took a screwdriver and kinda wedged it between the blades to get them unstuck. Also removed some guck between the blades.
And it worked!

SOURCE: flymo sabre hedge trimmer blades move but do not cut!

It sounds as if they have come off of the spindle inside and are not synchronised as they should be so the bottom blade is being pushed out of the way when trying to cut. You need to open up the head and unscrew the top to the small gearbox and make sure the bottom blade hasn't jumped up off of the catch point on the shaft.

Mcculloch t55 hedge trimmer Was working fine but the blades just stopped working. It starts fine but no sawing action from the blades at all.

If your trimmer has been sitting up the blades may not be lubricated well enough. While it is off try using a screwdriver and Hammer to move one of the blades, then try again. If it behind to start moving, lubricated well while running. That worked for me on mine.

I have a petrol hedge trimmer TRY26PHTA. The engine will start fine but the blades will not move

If the engine starts 'fine" then it has not seized.

Many, if not most, hedge trimmers are , for safety, equipped with a "CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH" between the engine and the blade to prevent blade operation unless the engine is at full RPM.

IF your machine is so equipped, it's possible that the clutch is worn and slipping so badly that the blade can't move.

Blades do not move on a Poulan gas powered hedge trimmer, but does start.

The issues here are either the gears in the hedge trimmer or the clutch is worn. These gearboxes can be a little tricky to repair, clutch replacement requires disassembly of the gear box.

Hit fence with blade and now it wont move

Without direct exposure to this model, check the parts catalog, there is more than likely some type of coupler between the engine and blade assembly. Usually they are added for exactly this situation. Worse case senerio, the gearbox for the blades is "toast".

FS85 Gas hedge trimmer started first time this season but cutting blades will not move. Unit new last year only about 10 hours on it. Why no blade movement on new unit?

soak blades in gas for a while then soak in oil and then try to force the blades to move a little and then try to start again, You will have to break away the rust and stuff that's holding them together, that's where the gas comes in and the oil next for lubrication.

Can i sharpen my electic trimmers using sandpaper

Things You'll Need: Three-sided blade sharpener (coarse, medium, fine) Small flat head screwdriver step 1 Using the flat head screwdriver, unscrew the trimmer blades and remove them carefully. Wipe off any oil, grime or dirt that has built up on them as this may make it more difficult to handle and keep them in place during the manual portion of the sharpening process. Step 2 Separate the blades and re-apply only the moving blade to the tension spring. Then apply the moving blade to sharpener surface and turn the clippers or trimmers on. Hold the moving blade on the surface of the sharpener and apply light pressure while moving the blade back and forth for one to two minutes. You can also lay the blade on the sharpener first, then put the trimmer tension spring directly on the blade. Step 3 Turn off the clippers and remove the moving blade. It should look shiny and feel sharper. Step 4 Remove the guide from the guide blade by unscrewing it using the flat head screwdriver. Place the guide blade on the sharpening surface and manually run it back and forth for about one or two minutes or until it's been sharpened to your satisfaction. Screw the guide back onto the guide blade while being careful to readjust it before you tighten the screws. Step 5 Screw all the blades back on the trimmers and power them on to make sure they've been fitted correctly. Test them on your own hair to make sure they've been sharpened correctly and are set to the desired depth. Ads by Google Best Knife Sharpener Sharpen like the pros. Complete kit w/ 1x30 belt sander. If they are very dull, you will want to start with the coarse or medium side of the sharpener. If they just need a small amount of sharpening, use the fine side. If you've never sharpened electric trimmers before, you may want to visually observe and feel the sharpness of the blades with your fingers before you start to sharpen it. It may be hard to tell if the blades are sharp enough if you don't feel them just before you apply them to the sharpening surface.

Sideburn trimmer does not cut anymore but still makes noise. trimmer blade does not move.

It is pretty common for the trimmer to get jammed up with hair particles and skin oils which can prevent the blade from moving.

Try running the blades of the trimmer in a shallow dish of rubbing alcohol. Then clean the blades vigorously with an old toothbrush or similar. If the blades still does not move try using the tip of a small flat screwdriver or similar object to push and advance the moveable blade. Repeat running in alcohol and brush clean

If this doesnt work, you will probably need a new trimmer

Hedge trimmer won't start. No jam or bend in blade. Battery is re-charged. Just won't start! Reset button isn't doing a thing!

Take the battery off. Now see if you can move the blade. Sometimes the blade can get to a point where it acts as though it will not run. If the blade has moved, reinstall the battery and see if it goes. I had you remove the battery for safety...Lee
