Do yo have a volt meter or an atx psu tester?
you can check voltage to see

If a power supply is bad, your pc will turn off or/and turn on and turn off. As long as your system is running without and shut downs your good.

However if your pc is turing off, I would change it as soon as you can. basically what is happening, when you unplug everything there isn't much of a draw on power so the light remains steady, but when you plug devices in there is a draw and the PSU cannot deliver.

I hope this helps.

Does a solid green light mean the power supply is ok when disconnected from motherboard and drives, ATX-300-12Z

Not necessarily. The green light usually just signifies power to the power supply. Amazon sells a cheap power supply tester that can verify everything on a power supply from old to new.

HP 5188-2655 power supply green light is not solid just light and won't turn the fan on & the computer. What it does mean?

Take the power supply to a retailer or computer shop in your local area to be tested. Pretty standard from what I have found out.

Bestec power supply model ATX-300-12Z Rev BD green indicating light flashes on off when plugged in.

Most computer testing facilities will test your current power supply for free. A replacement is very inexpensive to replace. Bestbuy, MicroCenter, small computer shops and buy replacemnent from Amazon.com, newegg.com.. Just make sure you have the correct information for your replacement. The model number on the power supply would be your best bet in most cases. Good luck and have a great day. I buy power supplies as low as $15 dollars Generic

I think my HP Pav powersupply is dead. When I plug it in and try to turn it on, nothing happens to the HD and computer except a green light flashes on the back of the power supply. It is a Bestec...

all atx powersupplies are generic-it dous not really matter what computer it comes from unless its a high end pc requiring loads of power-if your machine is intel you may need a supply with an extra twelve volt lead(two yellow and two black leads in a little block)-but for that pc i would just harvest a powerpack out of a dead machine

Flashing green light on back of power supply no power to unit.

You can check the power supply independently.
First you unplug all the devices, like hard disk, cdrom, FDD, card reader and any other device that is attached to the power supply.
Next is to remove the connector from the motherboard.
The ATX motherboard power connector, shown in Figure D, uses a single P1 connector rather than a P8 and a P9 connector. This connector is keyed to prevent it from being inserted backwards.

Hold IT IN THE REVERSE POSITION.
I MEAN THE CONNECTOR SIDE FACING THE WALL RATHER THAN FACING TOWARDS YOU

Next is to short the right pin as show below:

It is 14 and 15
From colour wires we may say Green and black wire.

Hope this help you to check the psu
Anything not clear please revert back..

The pc wont power up and the green led on the PSU is just flashing, is the bestec atx 250 12z broken?

Most likely yes.

I would also reccomend an upgrade to that PSU when replacing it.

Something in the 450-Watt neighborhood is usually a bit more robust.
