Toro Personal Pace Mower won't start w/ electric starter

Toro electric start 22'' inch lawmower Model No. 20018. Starts fine manually but electric start just makes "erererer..." noise. Charging battery makes no difference, fuse looks fine. Had same problems last yr about this time and took it to dealer, whatever they did worked about 1/2 the summer, now it is doing the same thing.

There are a couple of things you can check;

First, check to make sure the bendix is engaging. It is the gear that meshes with the fly wheel.

If it is, then try and see how fast the motor is spinning. Don't look at the blade though. It could be a faulty starter motor.

Make sure to also check the battery voltage with a volt meter. It should read at 12.0 or higher.

The problem with little plastic gear is its too light to work after alittle too much friction on the bendix (the twisty shaft on which it is mounted. the real solution is a new design gear with a steel core fore weight and nylon to save gear teeth stripping. so toro baby get out another dime and fix the @#$%!@# problem. inthe meantime remove the gear asm clean the bendix thourly with varsol then os e

Toro Personal Pace 20334 22-inch Briggs & Stratton Gas Self-Propelled Lawn Mower. The electric start button does not release?

Question edited for a little more clarity.
Question moved from Laundry Dryers.

There is either a fault with the push start switch, the starter relay or starter solenoid. Take it in for service, or you local dealer will probably collect and return it.

Yes I have a Toro Personal Pace lawn mower 22 inch 6 1/2 horsepower it is starting to smoke what should I do and it's blowing white smoke

Replace head gasket not as big problem as you might think. Normally you have to remove shroud over starter cord then starter housing then a couple of screws in carb. Bracket then all head bolts, remove head install gasket then reverse and look up on net tightening sequence and torque.

Toro Personal Pace sounds like it is running at half power

got oil in it, or do you add oil. Left outside alot, fuel line clogged. Is the gas old. Check the blades and the exit portion of the clippings. Does it have a drive train for ease of moving. those can bog down a mower. good luck

I have a Toro 22"

Odds are the battery needs replaced. If it is a 12V battery, you could try jump starting to test the starter to verify. If it is a 6V battery you will have to find another one to jump. You could check the battery with a multimeter to check voltage if you have one or know of someone who does. Make sure you know how to do this properly so as not to destroy the meter. The meters can be cheap or expensive, depends on the model and the features, but always bad idea to let out the magic smoke.

I hope this helps.

My Toro Personal Pace 22"

pull your spark plug and see if it will pull then, if so then it is hydro locked with fuel which can be caused y a bad fuel cap, not venting or a stuck open needle in carb causing gas to flood cylinder

It sounds like the starter drive may be jammed. It should not be engaged unless you are using the starter motor. Take the spark plug wire off, put on heavy leather gloves, and try turning the blade by hand to dislodge the starter drive. If it does dislodge, plug the spark plug wire back up and try the pull start again.
