SOURCE: I have a 648e John Deere Skidder that labors when idling until you pull blade levers or grapple/ arch functions. What can I do to fix it?

One of the spool valves is not centered a keeping pump on high pressure. Has any of the control valves been worked on and the spools swapped in the valves. The spools look very similar but will only work in the body they come out of. That is what I have run into in the past with different model control valves. When you activate a valve lever to do a function it relives the hydraulic pump to let oil flow that is why it sounds ok when using. In the neutral position the oil has a restricted flow. Check it out to find which valve is at fault.

SOURCE: 648E john deere skidder grapple discharging all the time cant find problem..or its not charging ??could it be something in the wiring ?

at this point have an auto electrician check out the charging circuit
check the drive belt for the alternator
I suspect that as the unit operates in extreme conditions , the brushes running on the alternator slip rings are not making contact ( stuck up from dust) or the rectifier pack is not working and allowing ac current to the battery
next problem are is that voltage regulator that is not allowing enough voltage to the battery
checking for broken wires and corroded connections may reveal a problem area
