SOURCE: SATELLITE DISH

Sure you can, if you have Dish Network go to the receiver and turn the TV and receiver on. Then press menu-6-1-1. This takes you to the point dish screen. You will come out with better results using a compass to find the azimuth the dish should be pointed toward and bore sighting the dish by pointing it in that direction. You then will need to move the dish in very minute increments pausing for 15 to 20 seconds after each move to ensure the satellite signal can be found. If you have ran a check switch prior to this and have lost all satellites you more than likely will not receive a signal until you run another check switch and have found the signal of at least one of the orbitals. If this proves to be to tedious and many times it will you can usually find an inexpensive signal pointing device at a store like Radio Shack. Hope this is some assistance to you. Let me know if I can be of additional assistance and thank you for using Fix Ya.

It sounds like the dish may be mis-pointed since it's not recognizing all the satellites. The next step for this would be to send a technician out to get everything fixed.

If you would like any assistance setting up a technician, just send me an email at [email protected] and I would be happy to help.

How do i hook my direct tv to the philips tv

This is what you'll need to do this:
    • Your DirecTV receiver, DirecTV access card, and your DirecTV satellite dish.

Step 1: You need to write down the serial number that is on your DirecTV access card onto a piece of paper that you will need for future reference. You'll need the number to activate your service with the DirecTV company. Now take your access card and insert it into your box, there is a slot either on the back or front side in which the card with enter.
Step 2: Plug the cable line that is coming from your satellite dish into the "Satellite In" plug on the back of your receiver box.
Step 3: Look for the "Out to TV" port on the back of your receiver, and use the proper cable, which should come with it, to plug it from the receiver into the proper port in the back of your TV.
Step 4: Power up the receiver and your TV (after plugging in the power cable and all) and tune into either channel 3 or 4, depending on where you live.
Step 4.5: You may be prompted to plug in a phone line, in which case you would need to plug in a phone cable into the back of the receiver, but this is only required as a one time thing, you may unplug it after activating your account.
Step 5: Once everything is set up (which it should be at this step), call DirecTV at 1-800-531-5000 to activate your access card, and you will need to use the serial code you copied down from it.
Step 6: After your access card is activated, enjoy watching on DirecTV!

Philips flat tv. Can't get it to hook up to dish network. The room where the tv is there isn't a dish box. We have to watch what is on in the other room. It only has one coax cable to hook up. Don't know...

I should be channel 3 or 4. This assumes that this coax cable is coming out as a TV R.F. connection of a Dish Network Box (Satellite Receiver) intended for direct connection to an old fashioned NTSC (channels 2-13, 14-83, possibly even has cable channels depending on how old?) TV.

If this coax is the output of a coax going directly to the Satellite Dish or through what might might look to you like some kind of fancy splitter (called a Multi-Switch) the you WOULD NOT want to hook that to your old NTSC tv. The frequency is too high ... etc. etc... you would need Dish Box (as you call it) a.k.a. a Satellite receiver - with a good and active satellite card from your provider.

    Changing Channels

Unfortunately, no. The tuner in your DVD recorder works differently than how your satellite receiver works. You *must* use the satellite receiver to select the active channel, and then send that channel to one of the inputs on your recorder. You can then record that channel. Unless your satellite receiver is has "dual tuners" in it, you are stuck watching the same channel that the DVD recorder is recording. If your goal is primarily time-shifting of shows (as opposed to archiving shows forever to DVD), you might consider getting a different satellite receiver with a built-in DVR (hard disk recorder). These allow you to mark shows in advance, have them recorded to the hard drive, and then you can watch them whenever you want, skipping all the commercials. You also get the ability to pause and rewind live TV.
