Sounds like fuel flow is restricted.
Is the vent cap on the gas tank clear?
Pull the fuel hose off at the carb and let run into a container from the tank......is fuel flow good while filling a cup or two worth of fuel?
If not check filter at fuel switch or at hose connection at tank for restriction.
It takes about 2 minutes to use up fuel in the carb with engine running.
Sure sounds like a fuel problem.

Is the fuel you are using old? If so, might try new gas.

Might have some water in the fuel. I know old fuel gives some of my power tools a tough time sometimes similar to what you are seeing with your generator.

same happened mine it turned out to be the spark plug it was a new generator it is ment to be a common problem with them the spark plugs they put in the new generator are only cheap ones

Why does the Honda GX160 engine start to pulse after running pressure washer for a few minutes then finally kills?

Hi pulsing is usually a sign of insufficient water flow to the unit.
always get the largest water hose you can for the feed and check to see if your water system can keep up (if it is a three gallons per min machine grab a bucket and make sure you are getting at least 3 gallons per min before you plug the machine in.
The number one culprit for bad flow is the ez hoses or retractable hoses.

Honda gx160 will not run on idle

There are a few things i can think of that would cause that problem. #1 clean out the carb, some times when an engine sits for a little while the gas will gum up in the carb. #2 check the tuning on the carb, It is possible that the idle screw needs a bit of adjustment. #3 The gas could have gone bad. Again if it sits for a while and the gas cap doesn't seal properly your gas will go bad in a hurry.
Hope this helps.

Generator

I suggest that the rings are now soft or broken and not sealing or the valves are stuck open unless it is a 2 stroke. Gen sets have a low oil cut out switch that stops the motor immediately there is insufficient oil in the sump. I wonder why it allowed you to run the engine for 10 minutes as it will not even allow you to start with no oil.

Why does my honda gx160 start and run for minute or two then cut off. Will restart

Hi, check the oil level. If low the oil guardian is cutting the spark. Regards Phil.

I have a GMC 2300w AVR generator which is pull start. it starts, runs for a min or two then cuts out..have clean fuel filter, air filter, spark plug, what else could it be...it still cuts out without...

Do you maybe have regular gas in it? Both Canadian and US regular gas now have ethanol in them and if the generator has sat for 2 weeks or longer then the gas is bad.Remove the gas tank and look inside. You will probably see an off-color blob floating around in the bottom. That is our wonderful environment friendly ethanol doing what it does best. Drain the tank and refill with premium. Restart the engine and do what you need to keep it running for about 5 minutes. If it has the plunger primer for cold start, use it every time the engine starts to die, 2-3 pumps each time. If not dribble a little gas into the breather to keep it going. After about 5 minutes it should start running on it's own. If not you will likely have to remove the carb and get the rubber seals replaced. Ethanol and rubber don't mix well.

After this keep premium gas in all your small engines. It doesn't separate. If you want to keep using regular gas then there are additives in the after market that will help keep it from separating. Hope this helps.

Viper engine on my earthquake tiller starts fine cold then dies after fifteen minutes and wont restart

You probably need a new coil, if it is a 2 stroke then it will almost certainly be the coil. The defect is very typical and recognizable.
