Both Screens Flicker after trying to replace touch screen

My dslite screen stopped working properly. stylus was not responding properly so i ordered a replacement screen. When trying to replace we realised we had an bottom LCD screen and not the touch screen so could not continue with the repair. When we put everything back together both screens now flicker. After this i did try connecting just the new LCD screen and this did not resolve the problem.

Do you think its now a problem with the main board ?

my dtr's DS Lite started flickering on the top screen, any suggestions. It is 2 years old-out of warranty?

  • Anonymous Apr 08, 2009

I had the same problem, after replacing the shell of my old DS lite, the lower screen was flickering, it was bothering me but I saw one of the answers here and solved my problem completely.
All I had to do was to lightly turn one of the screws under the battery cover, the right one.
    Thanks votahuan.

I finally solved the flickering problem on my DS (!), after I made my 1st engineering attempt overhaul shell, top screen and broken right hinge.   Was really frustrated about the flicker afterwards, and opened up unit back up too many times to debug (risked damage to cable ribbon everytime!).
Anyway turns out there's 2 hidden screws (location:  inside the battery compartment near where the front 'volume slider' is located) that adjusts the flickering (like how you need to calibrate an LCD monitor from doing same flickering effects) . You'll need a really (really!) small philips (+) screwdriver to do the adjustment.
Open up the battery cover with the VOL label upside down & facing you.  The adjustment screws are recessed deep inside the plastic...a right and left screw.  With the DS turned 'ON' to see the screen (whether you twist your neck to be able to see or have a mirror on the table in front of the DS)....slowly/carefully turn the screws to adjust until you like the clarity.  That's it.   The right screw = bottom screen.  The left screw = top screen.
Now.... on to figuring out how to replace or fix the broken Power toggle switch that I snapped off!  Currently using the toothpick method, but that's getting old!  Any suggestions, I'd appreciate it!

You snapped off your power switch?

    Hehe, get a new shell.

Votahuan is completely right.
this will not fix a broken screen or a damaged ribbon. it's most likely that you turned one of these screws while trying to remove the back cover, and you just need to readjust it. they do not hold anything down, so remove your back cover. looking at the board with the dscard slot at the top you will see two tiny silver philips "screws" to the left and the right of the volume slider which is in the bottom right of the board. these are what he was talking about. one controls the flicker of the top screen(left when you're looking at it as i said) and the other the top screen. dont worry about adjusting the wrong one, you can just adjust it back. for those of you who know where they are already, you can access them withour removing the back cover. they're in those deep recessess in the bottom of the battery case.

Open the battery compartment and take out the battery. There are two screws which were covered by the battery. Loosen the one near the middle of the battery compartment. Try one quarter of a turn at a time.
Worked for me when I replaced my case and was really annoyed to find both screens flickering. Glad all it was was an over-tight screw.

Follow up to my previous solution - This didn't fix it the problem although I've now found out the cause.

In the left hand hinge there is a metal split ring - The cable for the top screen was catching in the split in this ring. Lucky for me it hadn't damaged the ribbin cable.

All I did was rotate the split ring round a bit until the cable couldn't catch in it.

Tightening or calibrating the two screws under the battery will do very little. One holds the case the other holds the circuit board. Good luck to those it worked for but its probably a loose touch screen connector.

Touch screen gives wrong letters when touched

Hi, Try using something like a stylus to type in the letters. I've found with gps' that the touch screens aren't that accurate and almost all fingers are too big to properly type in anything and since a stylus (or even a stick) is much smaller it should be more accurate.

Hi. The touch screen on my wee girls touch screen has stopped working. Can I fix this myself or can do I need to send away?

Hi,

You can try sorting the problem yourself before you decide to send it in to Nintendo.

Most DS touch screens stop working if there is dust, hair, sand etc gets under the frame of the DS. They stop working because the particles get pushed down on the touch scream making the DS think that screens already been touched and won't respond.

Get a toothbrush with straight bristles and with your thumb gently press down the touch screen along the frame, use the touch brush to clean under the frame but be vary careful not to press down too much as you could cause damage to DS.

If the screen still doesn't work then you'll have to send it in for repair.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Ds pen not working on screen

If your stylus pen is not working on the touch screen there could be a couple of reasons. The screen could be heavily scratched , you could have a screen protector that is making it not function properly or your touch screen may have failed. I replace touch screens for $20.00. If you are a do it your selfer you could buy the touch screen off of eBay and you could find how to replace it on the internet. You would need a tri-wing screwdriver,a good set of eyes and patience. Hope this helps.

Does not respond to stylus

Try recalibrating the touch screen. Devices with touch screens need to be recalibrated in order to respond properly. The greater the use, the more often recalibration is necessary. I recalibrate my phone once a week. I hope this helps.

Touch screen problems

Hi penny_od.....The following excerpts has been extracted from the Nintendo Help Site. If you would like to view the entire document, please click on the URL below....Please update your post of any progress, whether positive or negative so that I may learn from this too.....good luck my friend. http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/ds/trouble_screen.jsp#touch ============================================= Touch Screen doesn't respond or is inaccurate when touched * Be sure that you're using only the bottom screen of the Nintendo DS with the stylus. The upper screen is not a touch screen. * Use only licensed Nintendo DS styluses and screen protectors. * Unlicensed screen protectors can lower the sensitivity of the touch screen. If the problem you are experiencing started happening after you attached a screen protector, you may want to remove it. Please note that some screen protectors can leave behind a residue that may be difficult to clean. If you are planning on removing a screen protector that has been placed on your Nintendo DS, click here for tips on cleaning your screens. * If the touch screen is not responding when touched, or the accuracy of the screen is off, you may need to recalibrate the touch screen. Click here for help recalibrating the Touch Screen. * If recalibrating the screen didn't solve the problem (see above step), hold the Nintendo DS at an angle so that you can see where the edges of the Touch Screen meet the housing of the system. Look around the entire edge of the Touch Screen for any foreign material (such as crumbs, etc.) that may be wedged in between the Touch Screen and the housing of the DS. Foreign material in this area can cause the Touch Screen to work incorrectly. If there are any visible particles, please follow these steps for cleaning the screen. If the above steps do not solve the problem, your system will need to be repaired. Click here for repair information.
