from casio fx300ms - how do you calculate antilogarithms that are written as the following example: 8.9932-10 and get the answer of .09845?

I have tried using shift, 10x, 8.9932 - 10 = and get 984,464,354 - I cannot figure out how to get the decimals in the correct place - help

In any scientific calculator log2(n) can be  calculated with either ln or log function as follows

Log2(n)= ln(n) / ln(2)

Or
Log2(n)=log(n) / log(2)

both will give nearly the same answers

To Ishelton- I think you are just messing up on your order of operations when entering it into the calculator. What I assume you meant was 10^(8.89932-10), but instead the calculator sees it as (10^8.993) - 10.

If you want to calculate a different base other than ten, then just use your log rules, and its easy as pie in your head.

lets see if I remember this...

take the base of the log and have it equal to the other side of your equation and raise that to the power of the initial value here's an example and quick log lesson:

Log(base x)4 = 8 so that the the x is the base or subscript of the log when you look at it visually.

this means you will have x^8 =4

then you know that we will have 8 log x = 4

if you know the base value and dont know the exponent, its the same thing

Log(base 7) 4 = x

7^x = 4

x Log 7 = 4

x =4 / Log7

and Ill give a final example for the hell of it if you really struggle with basic algebra.

Log (base4)x =5

4^5 = x
x = 1024

There is no need for a calculator to have the ability to do logs of any base other than 10. All the work can be done in your head faster than you can type the base in anyways.

The work above SHOULD be correct, as I'm just remembering off the top of my head, I don't have my notes from that course on me atm.

Floating point number into binary in fx-991MS

I checked in the manual and found that this calculator does not support Base-N calculations. On the FX-991ES Plus, which has a Base-N mode, fractions , exponents, and other floating points are not supported. The non-integer part is chopped off.

How to calculate 0.3log(base 2)0.3 using fx-991ms calc

Your calculator knows only the decimal logarithms log or log_10 and the natural logarithms (ln or log in base e).
So you cannot compute directly the logarithms in any bases other than 10 and e.
A workaround consists in using the relation
log in base b of a number a (log_b (a))
log_b(a)= (log_10(a) ) / (log_10 (b))
or the relation
log_b(a)= ln(a)/ln(b)

log_2(0.3)=log(0.3)/log(2) where log is log in base 10
Similarly
log_2(0.3)=ln(0.3)/ln(2)
As to the multiplicative factor you had at the beginning of your expression, just multiply the value obtained by one on the formulas above (both formulas will give the same result) by 0.3

How to calculate ln using fx-991ms

Hello, There is a key for that, the one labeled [ln] for natural logarithm. For log in base 10 use the key [LOG] [LN] 10 [ENTER] gives 2.302585093. As you certainly know, you cannot take the logarithm of a negative number, nor of Zero.
Hope it helps.

How to calculate logrithm of base of any number in fx-991ms

you need the change of base formula:

log base b of m is ln m / ln b

So- to find log base 2 of 8, simply find ln8/ln2

(from Wikipedia - the proof also follows if you want to go look it up)
While there are several useful identities, the most important for calculator use lets one find logarithms with bases other than those built into the calculator (usually loge and log10). To find a logarithm with base b, using any other base k:

How do you compute Log base 5 to the exponent 5.9? i cant figure it out on this computer

Hello,
There is something missing in the formulation.

Any way you cannot calculate it directly on this calculator. You need to use the formula

log_5 (a)= ln(a) x log_5 (e) a is a positive integer

where log_5 means log in base 5 (my notation for the function)
e is the base of the natural logarithms (e=2.71928 )
ln is the natural log function

To obtain a more accurate value of e, calculate e^(1)
Here are some values of log(e) in different bases (for you to play with)

log_2(e)= 1.442695041
log_3(e)=0.9102392266
log_4(e)=0.7213475204
log_5(e)=0.6213349346
log_6(e)=0.5581106266
log_7(e)=0.5138983424
log_8(e)=0.4808983470
log_9(e)=0.4551196133
log_10(e)=log(e)=0.4342944819

If you have to use log in bases other than 10 or e, you will need a claculator that does that at the touch of a button. Some calculators that handle these calculations are the Casio FX-300ES, FX-115ES,FX-991ES, those called Natural Display, or WriteView(Sharp) or Textbook display.

Hope it helps.

How to calculate logarithm values with different base

Like you maybe know in math (I know!) log x base y = log x / log y
so what you need its just input your number (x for example) and log it, than divide log x by log 2.
just: log x / log 2. (by the way in calculator the meaning of log x is log x base 10 the default base is 10)
