Disconnect the speakers and see if it does the same thing.
if it does not shut down, check that the speaker wires are not touching on the back of the speakers.
many times, people run over the wires with a vacuum or similar and a short results,or bump the speaker.most people have the leads way too long, and even if one strand touches,it will shut down the amp.
if it still shutting off, there is an internal problem.
the best place to go with an onkyo is an authorized depot.
they are tricky to work on.
i did onkyo warranty for 7 years.

How do i fix my Power Acoustik LT-980/2 car amp, it keeps on going into protect mode.

Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty . .A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you

When i turn up the volume my amp shuts down i turn it down and it comes back on. I have a crossfire vr1000d what am i doing wrong?

Hi,
Is the protect light in your amplifier turns on when it shuts down? If yes, then your amplifier lacks voltage. The reason why it goes on protect mode is, the amplifier is needing an amount of voltage from your car, since your car cannot provide that amount of voltage your amplifier is not getting anything, instead of getting voltage to produce watts its getting minimum voltage & producing heat, to save itself it goes on protect mode so the incoming power shuts off & cools the amplifier.
Example:
Your on vol 40, amplifier is working fine, when you turn it up to vol 50 your amplifier shuts of, then you put it back to vol 40 & your amplifier turns back on.
At vol 40 your voltage is 12v or above. but in vol 50 your voltage drops to 11 & below.

Check your battery or alternator if they are giving enough voltage

Hope this helps your inquiry. Have a blessed weekend.

Well, I have no idea why you would have two capacitors on a 500 watt amp but, did you charge the capacitors? Have you tried the amp without the capacitors? What size power wire are you using?

Audiofonics adf-241 no power all wires connected fuses ok.

Hello pimprascalz,

Many amps will go into protect mode if one of the speaker wires is shorted or grounded, or if the voice coil(s) are defective. Try disconnecting the speaker wires one at a time and see if the amp still goes into protect upon power up. Likewise, some amps will go into protect if one of the inputs is grounding out. Again, to troubleshoot, disconnect them one at a time and try the amp. Next, make sure that the amp itself is not grounding. Most amps need to be mounted to a nonconductive surface. If the case contacts the frame of the vehicle, it can cause a problem. If the problem is not in the speaker wires or the input cables, the amp case is not contacting the vehicle frame, and you have checked your power, ground and turn-on leads, then the amp itself is probably faulty.

Hope this helps.

The amp turns on but goes to protection mode

Have you checked the REM wire, if it is the wiring may have gotten fried.

Or you may need to get new parts replaced within the amp.

Both issues happened to me.

Protection mode

Disconnect all speaker wires from the speaker terminals of the amp. If it powers up and doesn't go into protect when you increase the settings, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down, the amp may need to be repaired.

Does it shut down or make loud noises when you move the RCA cables where they plug into the amplifier?
